Long-term, I think the UK will be stronger, and much more secure since they'll have complete control over their immigration & fiscal policies. Independence is good. A world order is not.

This just guaranteed a scotish yes vote on independence, put Northern Ireland in a position where they now have to choose between independence or violating the good friday agreement, and just gave spain a hell of a lot of leverage over gilbratar.

The "United Kingdom" is definitely not coming out of this stronger
Would they be weaker if they shed Scotland?

I love how the Left/Elites thinks...They use violence/force in the form of government power, if you general populace finally gets fed up and fights back, then the general populace is at fault for its use of violence in resisting. It's like a rapist calling his victim violent because she fought back.

RE: Trump and Brexit: Right-wing populism
This irrational fear of nationalist populism is disgusting.

It's essentially just elitism, which is often times simply pathetic coming from people who refuse to accept that they are more like the common man than they would like to ever admit.

People ought to govern themselves; that is inherently populist for Christ's sake.

No no no no it's not that people have had enough of choosing between two parties which increasingly look like two sides of the same coin, who never listen, who are bought and paid for by special interests, who engage in identity politics over freedom, who promise much and deliver nothing. It's that you retarded hoi polloi non-postgraduate-degree-having imbeciles won't listen to us, the enlightened political class who know the answers to all your questions and can best guide the government when you STFU and keep giving us blank checks for power. Now know your role, shut your mouths, take your government hand out, and keep listening to us in Oxford/Harvard/Cambridge/Yale/Princeton/London/DC.

I'm really f*cking sick of how putridly self-righteous the left is. They will learn the hard way that when people are tired of being bossed around and you don't heed their wishes, they turn to nationalism and violence to force those in charge in hear them. Maybe the left will be thrown out or wise up before then, but I'm not counting on it.

Well at least you are man enough to admit that this is going to turn to nationalism and violence. 04-cheers

This has been tried before...and it never ends well.

The left has been working hard to foment nationalism on the right for years... This is a reaction to being ignored (as GTS pointed out).

I posted something a few months ago talking about how the SJW/PC culture is creating a sense of white tribalism and how that was never going to be a good thing.

Nationalism itstself is not a bad thing, any more than anger in and of itself is a bad thing. What's bad is how you act on it.

Good. More freedom is always the desired condition, is it not?

The people have spoken against a failed experiment, one which had become unwieldy, unresponsive and unaccountable. in the latter parts it sounds familiar, no?

The people were given a pretty clear choice, we're all about freedom of choice, right? 04-cheers

The UK may survive this economically but socially, they have set in motion exactly what Islamic radicals want. An us vs. them mentality. It's what they have been working for since 2001.

Does this mean that they will continue with their muslim ideology? Hmm, why did they have this ideology when Britain was a member? Nothings changed Feet, radical muslims is radical muslims. The only difference is that Britain can decide on their own whether they want more or not and not have to succumb to the Europeans bully tactics.

the UK has had Northern Ireland since 1801, Scotland since 1707, and Gibraltar since 1713. Anyone who consider themselves a friend of the UK and takes pride in the UK losing those territories is a f***ing moron.

That would fall under the second bolded part you mental ninny..

And I would assume you think that things like the Greek War for Independence was not a bad thing right?

Nationalism has been the driving force behind kings falling and colonial powers being evicted from colonies.

please tell me you know the difference between the UK and british empire.

their empire was the likes of India and south africa. the locations mentioned above see themselves as british and the UK fought a war as recently as 1982 to protect those who want things to stay that way.

Of course, that is ignoring the revolts that occurred in those territories and that Scotland, Northern Ireland and Scotland have decided to remain in the Empire.

All are welcome to leave at anytime. Even Wales. If they think they can make it on their own and want to, it's better for everyone. But that will mean they'll have to figure out how to fund their own social services. While it would be disappointing, England would be better off financially and could rebuild their military and become a serious power again.

It is acceptable then for British friends to mourn the lost of their empire?

please tell me you know the difference between the UK and british empire.

their empire was the likes of India and south africa. the locations mentioned above see themselves as british and the UK fought a war as recently as 1982 to protect those who want things to stay that way.

Of course, that is ignoring the revolts that occurred in those territories and that Scotland, Northern Ireland and Scotland have decided to remain in the Empire.

being in the UK is different than being in the empire.
UK is just a smaller empire, albeit not an imperialist one.

Scotland would be greatly diminished if they were to leave.

That said, I'm happy to see popular movements across the world assert their self determination.
