Nigel Farage, the leader of the U.K. Independence Party that just helped lead Great Britain to a disastrous vote to leave the European Union, is a man with a fondness for race-baiting rhetoric that will be quite familiar to Americans who’ve endured a year of the Donald Trump campaign.

Like Trump, Farage blames crime and disease on immigrants and loves telling audiences that unemployment is a direct result of immigrants taking their jobs. He argues that Great Britain has “frankly become unrecognizable” and looks “like a foreign land.”

It is very much still yet to be seen if Brexit was a mistake. In the short-term, people with pre-conceived opinions against the move will point to the stock market and financial woes as proof that you were right.

Long-term, I think the UK will be stronger, and much more secure since they'll have complete control over their immigration & fiscal policies. Independence is good. A world order is not.

The UK may survive this economically but socially, they have set in motion exactly what Islamic radicals want. An us vs. them mentality. It's what they have been working for since 2001.
Their Right-wingers are like Bernie fans. Nothing like our Right-wingers.

This just guaranteed a scotish yes vote on independence, put Northern Ireland in a position where they now have to choose between independence or violating the good friday agreement, and just gave spain a hell of a lot of leverage over gilbratar.

The "United Kingdom" is definitely not coming out of this stronger

I don't believe that Obama talking point for one second. They have had an "us vs them" mentality since the founding of Islam. Radicals will continue to be radical, and moderate, peaceful Muslims will continue to live in peace. The UK somehow removing themselves from the EU and reforming their immigration laws is not somehow going to radicalize an entire religion. Scare tactics...that's all it is. And they may even had worked here, had we not had to hear Obama shove that down our throats for the past 8 years.

So, the UK is going to get rid of 'freedom of movement' for EU residents? Nope. But many of the Brexiters think that's the case. LOL. I'm going to see love Boris and Nigel try to explain that one.
I love how the left in the media have all now lockstep joined into a chorus of right-wing populism. It's so transparently coordinated. And at its very core is a laughable degree of ignorance (I'd prefer to say they're that ignorant instead of that outwardly malicious) as to the roots of Trump, Farage, and the economics of Brexit.

No no no no it's not that people have had enough of choosing between two parties which increasingly look like two sides of the same coin, who never listen, who are bought and paid for by special interests, who engage in identity politics over freedom, who promise much and deliver nothing. It's that you retarded hoi polloi non-postgraduate-degree-having imbeciles won't listen to us, the enlightened political class who know the answers to all your questions and can best guide the government when you STFU and keep giving us blank checks for power. Now know your role, shut your mouths, take your government hand out, and keep listening to us in Oxford/Harvard/Cambridge/Yale/Princeton/London/DC.

I'm really f*cking sick of how putridly self-righteous the left is. They will learn the hard way that when people are tired of being bossed around and you don't heed their wishes, they turn to nationalism and violence to force those in charge in hear them. Maybe the left will be thrown out or wise up before then, but I'm not counting on it.

I think you missed what I was trying to say. I wasn't talking about the Islamic Radicals. They are already have an "us vs. them" mentality. I'm talking about Britain.

You see, the goal of Osama was to draw the United States into a war in the Middle East . This united the Arabs against us. Now their terrorists plots against Europe has forced their hand and it's exactly what they wanted to happen.
Never take Fit's click bait. He is a one trick donkey.

I've never understood this point of view. It is so racist/xenophobic/pick your buzz word, and flies in the face of the thought of "peaceful Muslims". You are essentially stating that all Muslims exist with the desire for Jihad in their heart and are all susceptible to being radicalized, and it's only in the event that the Western world fully capitulates to them that they will not activate/go live.

Yup. That's why I said that it's interesting to see how history repeats itself. But hey, this is what they mean when they say they want to take America back.

This should set us all back a few decades.

The sad thing is that you understand how this will end. War.
(06-24-2016 05:03 PM)firmbizzle Wrote: [ -> ]The sad thing is that you understand how this will end. War.

To the contrary. I think the UK avoided war by leaving. It is those countries who will be left clinging to the carcass of the EU, and those countries most adversely effected by EU policy without the power to change it, who are most likely to have widespread violence.

That would be, in no particular order, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Hungary* and any other like minded for USSR country.

* Hungary had immigration jammed down its throat forcefully over its vocal protests by the EU. If you thought Nigel Farage had an issue with limitless immigration, talk to the Hungarians.

The question is ... will the EU fall apart before it has a chance to turn some member states violent and potentially revolutionary. That ... nobody knows, but the key probably lies with France. If the French bail it's pretty much over. The other relief valve is if the Germans show they no longer are willing to finance such profligacy across the continent. But thus far the Germans have shown they're only too willing to lap up ever larger bills for nothing.
