So Miller says we're #2 in CUSA behind WKY after yesterday, and we're not done. Looking for FCourt and C. Hope we get 'em.

So Vaughn is in fact going to prep school. Im ok with that. He sounded like a fine prospect, but these three are the ones I was most excited about. By all accounts this is quite a good class and with last years guys, the 2 transfers and these three I really think we are moving in the right direction. Time will tell, but I'm more optimistic about the squad than I've been in years.

Does prep school effect his eligibility? Will he still have four seasons to play in five years after he comes to ODU?

He will still have four years (five if he redshirts), the issue is he is free to go anywhere he wishes, so if he has an awesome prep year and Duke offers, don't expect to see him in a Monarch uniform. Conversely, if he preps and stinks we don't have to bring him in either.

Thanks, I knew a lot of players do it hoping for higher profile offers than they get out of HS but wasn't sure how it effected his eligibility.

I agree with you about Ezikpe and said how much I liked hearing of his coming to ODU back when he announced his intentions. I believe that they may have gotten a real gem. Kind of brings back memories of Gattison when he signed.
It is also telling that Ed's article today mentioned that Jones is in the market for a center. If he gets that box checked off then he will have what on paper would appear to be a great (and complete) recruiting class that fulfills all of ODU's needs.

Aaron Carver went to prep school as well as Zoran Talley to name a couple.

I am equally excited about Vaughn, partly because he is a Virginia kid. Our most successful teams have had Virginia kids on the roster that made a big contribution. Just to name a few, Bowdler, Bassett, Hodge, Sesssoms. Blain Taylor's best teams had Finney and James to name a couple. I think it helps recruiting and our state exposure when we have Players raised in the Commonwealth. The local papers are always wanting to keep up with their players.

I liked that Vaughn was a POY. Granted at a lower level HS like Travis Fields, but I think when you get a chance to sign a POY you have take it. His weight, and lack of other D1 offers are the only things that make me nervous. Im sure JJ knows what he's doing with this guy though. I definitely agree that its good to keep kids in state if they are high enough quality to help us out.

Monarx, why would you call Norcom a lower level school? That's where the Finney's played too.

I was under the impression Norcom was a single A school vs. AA or AAA. Thats what I meant by "lower level". I think those designations are determined by the size of the student body. The general thinking is the competition isn't as strong in A vs AAA because there are fewer kids in the system. Therefore its harder to tell the skill level of a player because he isn't playing against as strong a level of competition. Perhaps I am wrong? Certainly doesn't mean the kid can't be good. In fact the point of my post was considering he was the POY ODU can't afford not to take a chance on the guy. But its possible that is why he was not recruited by many D1 schools.
Edit: Upon further research, Norcom is at the Triple A level. So I was wrong on that. Vaughn was the single A POY I believe.

@TaiYoungHoops: When I asked Kalu Ezikpe(@EzikpeKalu14) why he chose Old Dominion, the Discovery forward said that being able to play high level competition and earn his playing time as at Fr. was very important. The senior also mentioned the connection with the staff and the area as key factors https://twitter.com/TaiYoungHoops/status...95/photo/1

24/7 seems to be only going through the motions when it comes to basketball.
