I really think kids just commit early to good G5 schools just to draw attention from the P5 schools. We're basically scouting all the 3 star and lower guys for the P5 schools.

"Commit" just doesnt mean anything now. Its just "Ill stick with you until something better comes along."

This was one of the biggest surprises to me when Charlotte started football. It is nuts. I wonder how many recruiting dollars get spent on kids that dump a school. I guess if the coaches really cared they would see that the rules got changed, but I would think this would have them banging their head against the wall.

Good point. I agree.

Football needs an early signing period, like basketball. Let kids who commit early, sign early. That would save schools a whole bunch of trouble and expense of trying to hold some of these guys.

IMO early commitments were always worthless.Local media here seem to treat them almost like done deals.

What I don't understand is how some fans seem to treat football verbal commits as 95% done--but basketball verbals as maybe 60% with no evidence to back their feeling.I don't get it.Feel free to explain it to me.

For these reasons alone is why I don't give a damn about any players till they are on campus and are actually playing. Makes life easier.

It's a two way street, the kids just realize that now. The average FBS school puts out between 150 and 200 offers each year and you can be sure that they aren't taking the first 25 kids that say yes.

That's what always cracks me up about recruiting and bragging who you got based off the other offers they have. A kid may have an "offer" from Ohio State, but he could be #10 at his position on their board. The only way they are taking his commitment is if they miss on the guys above him. He can tweet that he committed to them and can believe that he is going there, but they aren't taking him if they get the players they have rated higher.

It would also protect players from being dropped when schools get commits later in the year from targets higher on their position boards. While Memphis was the beneficiary of that this past year (picked up a TN and an AL commit that got bumped late in the season), it's not a good position for any player to find themselves in.

When a kid does this I can't honestly wish him good luck, pretty backhanded move IMO.

I have started calling these reservations instead of commitments, as in I have my spot reserved at this hotel (team) and will go there unless a room (legitimate scholarship offer) becomes available at this other hotel (team) that I would really prefer to stay (play) at. If not, I will make do at this hotel (team) and be content (and possibly happier and better off in the long run).

I guess it is a lot like applying to a safety school while awaiting your acceptance to Harvard.

I cut the kids a little slack when I hear of a kid changing his mind. After all there are few bigger decisions an 18 YO can make - getting married and joining the military are the only ones that come to mind.

The ones that stay show character that will serve them and their school well.

What do we really expect? Look how our society is, no one is loyal to anything or anyone. Its a "me" country/world and that's exactly what has been taught to these kids. The schools are no exception, as someone said, they dump recruits all the time, no loyalty. Welcome to liberal socialism lol.

If a G5 dumps a recruit there is usually a back story as to why(behavior, grades, etc). The worst thing I have ever seen Marshall do to a recruit was ask them to grey shirt and come on the next cycle. Some will do it and some want to play now and you really cant blame the kid if they decline it. Lavern Jacobs, WR for MD, was a grey shirt that didn't want to wait on Marshall and I don't blame the kid. He did very well at MD and in my opinion was a big miss for Marshall, very underrated recruit. Just glad we contained him in the Military Bowl.
