What if?
What if this season was an aberration for C-USA?
Just a year ago, we finished higher (RPI) than the AAC. 2nd rated conference in the G5.
Football fell off a cliff this season. Basketball was maybe the worst ever in C-USA.
But we all have been around long enough to know these things cycle. (see UCF, USM football.)
C-USA has schools with tons of potential. It's taking a while to bear fruit. But when we put it together and blow past the AAC again, won't it be fun to witness? Even on BeIN?
NT, FIU, FAU, Charlotte, UTSA, UTEP, and Old Dominion will not be pushovers much longer in football. Right now, it all seems insurmountable, doesn't it? Well, sit back and watch. All of these schools are in recruiting heaven compared to many of the schools ahead of us right now. The worm will turn.
Basketball will improve. Hell, it can't get any worse, right?
Baseball is already a Top 5 conference. Watch us get at least one team to Omaha.
TV will come around once we start winning again, guys.
This is a very young conference as it now stands. Time together will pay dividends.
Kudos to WKU, MT, Marshall, LaTech, and Rice for keeping football on the map the last few years. You're about to have company. From where I sit, we are recruiting well across the board. Most of our programs have great coaches in place. We're about to turn the corner.
I'm tired of being laughed at... no more C-USA jokes. Get behind your school, get behind the conference if you can, and let's build this thing. Have a little pride, and damn the naysayers.

RE: What if?
Besides a couple knucklehead fans from CUSA schools, most of the hatred about this conference are from fans of AAC and SBC schools who've waddled over here. It's expected so I pay little to no attention to them.
As noted in the great post above, I think we have a strong core of programs that will be strong in football and basketball moving forward and as the others continue their upward swing, the future looks pretty good. Everything moves in cycles and it's way too early to pass judgement on this conference.
The reason I'm fairly stoked about this conference is because not only do we have some programs with a solid football pedigree, we have several that have a strong basketball pedigree. Those ships will be righted in short order. In all honesty, besides the buttload of money, the reason P5 "perception" is so much better is because their conferences are strong in football and basketball. That's the reason the AAC currently has the edge in perception....at least until Cincy, Memphis, and UConn get picked up by another conference. The MAC and SBC are known for football, not basketball. To the casual fan (not the diehards and zealots on message boards), they hear names of schools in P5 Conferences throughout the entire year...Bowl Season and NCAA Tourney, whereas they only occasionally hear about current CUSA, SBC, and MAC schools during football season and even then, it's incidental. If we can maintain several solid football programs and get 3 or 4 basketball programs to raise their game, perception will change. I'm not sure if I'm making sense but hey, I'm trying.

What if?
Well said. Many forget how dominant we have been in football before this year. We were undefeated against G5 competition only two years ago. We had a down year this year, it happens. WKU, USM, MU, LTU, and MTSU are sure fire bowl teams every year, and that's not going to change. If we can work on the bottom half of the conference, we will be back on top of the pecking order in no time.

What's not to love about the East? Good peers, 100 Miles of Hate, Marshall fans loving them some Marshall, ODU almost bowl eligible every year, south Florida trips, and Charlotte on the rise.

Honestly, before I started paying attention to "all" FBS football, I knew very little about the belt, so I wouldn't say they are "known" for football. I knew troy and MTSU was in it and scared some folks, got some decent wins here and there. When you guys were in it, it was more known for basketball, between you and south Alabama.
The MAC has been known for football for a while now, they always have decent teams at the top of the conference and tend to have some giant killers like NIU, Toledo, BGSU and once upon a time Miami. So for the average fan, they probably know more about the MAC by far than the belt and maybe even CUSA for now.
CUSA doesn't have an identity right now, work in progress.
MWC has Boise and Air Force, most can pick them out.
Don't even want to talk about the AAC, they think the Big East label it once had means something now. Well it doesn't but it still trumps all but the MWC right now in pecking order. Most schools have a household name.
