Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
As if things weren't bad enough, Dane Myers is out of the lineup today, hurting both our offense (especially against a left-hander) and our defense. Can things get any worse?...
Warren
Chandler
Proctor
DiCaprio
Gray (3B)
Wunderlich
Teykl
Lewis
Kopycinski
Duplantier

Injured hand apparently. Must be on his glove hand. According to JP, he can still pitch, but will not be playing the field (or batting) for the rest of the year. Not sure how he can pitch then, as he would still have to field.

Myers hurt his hand. Graham just said in the pregame interview that he'll still be able to pitch.

T1:
JD set 'em down so fast "we didn't even have time to set the Rice defense," quoting the delightfully miffed JP.
K, F-7, F-9.

RE: Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
B1:
Warren: "one-pitch, one out." 6-3.
Chandler: Twice as many pitches, but the same result: 6-3.
Proctor: 1-2 pitch: soft F-9 to short right.
That was a fast full first inning!
Scoreless after 1.

1-2-3 inning for Big Jon (strikeoutK, two fly balls). Throwing strikes, which is a good sign.
Warren first pitch ground out. Good grief, are we going to continue to first pitch swing on everything?
Chandler ground out to SS.
Proctor flied out to LF.
Scoreless heading to the top of the second inning.

RE: Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
T2:
Lunceford: First pitch HBP! Grrr.
Gladu: 2-0 pitch ... "Hard ground ball to Gray, which ricochets down the LF line." Double ... now ruled an error. Grrr.
Daigle: K! (2-2 pitch)
Love: 3 fouls, curve low, foul back, "Called strike three! Love didn't think so. He lingered."
Diaz: Three swings and misses ... but the ball goes to the backstop and a run scores! A wild-pitch strikeout. Arrrgh!! 0-1
Runners at the corners, two out ... OG mound visit.
Hall: "wave and a miss." "They try to throw through and the ball hits Duplantier and the run scores." (Apparently a stolen base attempt.) Grrrr!! 0-2.
Hall strikes out to end the inning.
Two unearned runs allowed on no hits! The Owls Offense better show up bigtime today if our defense is going to play like this.

And now a double off Gray at 3B, down the LF line. Now ruled an error. That's why Myers is so important. Here we go again.

Ugh, Dup striikes out the next 3 batters, but a wild pitch on strike 3 scores a run. Come on, Hunter.

Louisiana Tech scores on a strike-out, wild pitch with two outs. Ugh, what else can go wrong.
1-0 LA Tech.

What the hell are we doing out there? A throw down to 2nd on a steal HITS Duplantier and a run scores. 2-0.

Hunter is killing us here. On an attempted double steal, Hunter hits Duplantier, so the runner at 3B scored.
Ridiculous. 2 runs on no hits, as Dup strikes out the final 4 batters of the inning. Offense better figure out how to hit Diehl sooner than later, as the D is certainly not helping him out.

RE: Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
B2:
DiCaprio: "Roller to the right side." 4-3.
Gray: first-pitch single to RF!!
Wunderlich: Swinging strikeout on 1-2 pitch.
Tekyl: Called strike. (Home ump"Dana Moscaro known for the high strike.") ... 3-2 pitch ..."Flared out ... bad break on the ball. He fumbles the ball. ... Massive collision at the plate. He is safe."
OG out to talk to the ump. (Complaining about Gray not given a path to the plate?)
LaTech coach Goff is out, too. (Complaining that Gray hit his catcher?)
Lewis ... hit down the line to RF .... "Tekyl's rounding third. ... He is safe!" Lewis advances to 3rd on the throw. "Now they're calling it a triple."
Kop: First pitch. "Hard rocket up the middle .. back through the box ... through that five hole." 3-2!
Warren: "First pitch swinging, bounces over Lunceford's head." Double.
Chandler: Quite a few fouls to a 3-2 count ... "Fouled away" ("There's a nearby apartment complex that must be pounded with baseballs.") Another foul "hits a Mississippi pine tree." Another foul "chopped back to the net." "The pay off pitch: Ball four, down low!" Bases loaded!!
Proctor: Outside. Foul. "Misses down." "Lined left side! Screams into the Rice bullpen." "Bounces in." 3-2 count. "Hit very high to center. Going back .. back ... back. It's outta here!! It's a grand slam!! Ford Proctor is pumped as he screams around the bases!!
Owls up now 7-2!! now THAT's some offense ... and what a two-out rally! Yay, Owls!!
DiCaprio: First pitch double!
Pitching change. Casey Sullivan in.
Gray: Ball. Fouled back to the net. Ball. Ball. Walk!
Wunderlich: First pitch ... "Soft liner that goes beneath Lunceford's glove." DiCaprio scores! 8-2.
OG out to talk. "A quick chat with Gray."
Tekyl ("13th batter in this inning"): Low. Called strike. Low & inside. (Can hear a "Drive 'em in, baby" shout from the crowd.) Single! "No collision at home this time." 9-2!!
Lewis: 2nd pitch grounder to short ... 6-4 fielder's choice. It had to happen ... this epic inning is over. "Nine runs on nine hits" all but the first after two were out. Now THAT's some offense. WTG, Rice!!!
Owls up 9-2 ... after 2.
(JP also said during this inning that when he was on a north Louisiana radio show last week, some LaTech fans who were sitting on the hill at the Bulldogs' park confirmed that Tekyl's "double" was actually a home run.)

RE: Rice vs. LaTech (CUSA Tourney Game 1)
Looks like both teams are reverting to their youth baseball game modes with early morning sloppy play. Unearned run for Rice makes it 2-1 in B2 and then a Grayson double ties it up at 2. Runner at third 2 outs.
Hunter makes it 3-2 with an rbi single.
