CUSA TV contract disaster good for AAC
Looks like CUSA is down to 5 games on ESPN, 5 on CBS-SN.
IF I'm Mississippi State or Iowa or NC State or Utah, playing a home-and-home with Tulsa or Tulane just got more attractive, compared to a home-and-home with say North Texas or Louisiana Tech. The game @ Tulsa is almost guaranteed to be on an ESPN channel (some chance of ending up in the CBS-SN package, sure). The game @ North Texas is competing for one of four regular-season CUSA spots on ESPN. (Assume ESPN's #1 pick is the CUSA CCG.)

Or, CUSA will do what the Sunbelt Teams do, take the P5 Cannon Fodder home game for the Money.

Maybe. I think the AAC contract already held a huge advantage over CUSA in terms of scheduling because ALL AAC games are nationally broadcast. I doubt the CUSA deal it has any real effect on the AAC, but to the extent the new CUSA contract hurts or helps us---I'd say it would be a slight negative for us because prior to the new deal, CUSA wasn't on ESPN AT ALL (other than the CCG). They had a few games on Fox national, but the reality was virtually all the CUSA games were broadcast on regional network windows or on spotty syndicated OTA networks.
Overall, I don't think it matters because the trickle down effect of ESPN's loss of Big10 programming will likely mean some better broadcast windows will be available for some AAC games. I suspect the newly acquired CUSA content will be for week nights or will be plugged into the old ESPN-News slots that the AAC was filling (which would be open due to moving AAC content to a better window). I imagine it would take a very attractive P5 opponent to get a CUSA game into a prime ABC/ESPN/ESPN2 window. Not sure many of those are visiting CUSA stadiums.

LOL at Andre Ware saying that UH's decision to move to the Big East/American was going to be a HUGE mistake.

I think the bigger "good" for the AAC would be ESPN losing the B1G altogether. Might push a few of our ESPNews and ESPNU games onto ESPN and ESPN2.

Personally wouldn't mind seeing no Thursday night games to compete with the NFL for more Fiday night games.

If the league maintains the level it's on now and the league doesn't lose anybody, I'd be shocked if the AAC didn't get a bump to around where the old Big East was.

You mean the proposed 10 mil per school that was rejected?
Cheers!

No, the $5M the Big East was making before WVU, Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Louisville left.

Sunbelt teams almost never will get 1-1. They get 2-1 or 1-0 deals. TV deal doesn't matter. The few home games they get vs P5 will be among the games they get on ESPN or CBS. I don't think it has any effect on the AAC.
As for TV deal, I still think we will get a decent boost to 4 to 6 mil per school, if we hold together long enough to get to tv deal. We will continue to lose ground to P5, but stretch the lead over the G4.
