Republicans hold Zika funding hostage to their special interests
Those Senate Republicans who love the unborn so much? Yeah, they're slow walking Zika funding and trying to attach it to bills allowing truck drivers to be on the road more than 80 hours/week and allow pesticides to be used near your water supply. Either they loooove Ayn Rand or, more likely, they're just corrupt ass holes willing to risk public safety on multiple fronts to line their pockets.

The House passed their bill, giving 1/3 of the requested funding to fight Zika, but gutting the Ebola funding for it. Yes, the same Ebola that they were all convinced Obama was going to let onto our shores and kill us all leading up to the 2014 elections.

Reid and Senate Democrats tried to separate Zika funding from the lobbyist wet dreams, but no dice. Because Ayn Rand, or something.

Here's the thing about the free market. Drug companies do research and development, yes, but only when there is a huge profit to be had. So they spend billions perfecting the boner pill for rich old Boomers while diseases like Zika that are killing babies overseas (for now) get neglected. So you need the government to step up, ass holes.

Republicans. Despicable.

RE: Republicans hold Zika funding hostage to their special interests
Thank goodness we have angelic Democrats like Harry Reid, who has spent his entire life and career working only for the benefit of others, shunned every penny from special interests, and works tirelessly from the moment he wakes up to the moment his head hits the pillow at night fighting to make the world a better place, driven by only his divine benevolence and concern for others.

Why do you think Republicans voted for Trump?

Don't be so smug though, Democrats are beholden to the same masters.

Sildenafil was developed to treat high blood pressure and angina. During clinical trials the drug didn't perform as planned but the side effect it had for treating erectile dysfunction was found and luckily the pharmaceutical companies were able to recoup their developmental money in that way instead of losing it all.

Leftists. Ignorant.

RE: Republicans hold Zika funding hostage to their special interests
Democrats certainly aren't perfect. A major reason I backed Bernie because he took no special interest money. But when public health is an issue, we can at least get most Democrats on board. I know someone is going to come back by mentioning abortion, but again, there's no universal agreement on when life begins.

I've probably done more to try to stop her than the rest of you combined. I don't like her, but she's better than the alternative.

But you're going to saddle up with her in November, so it's pretty much moot.

I know when I've been licked. Despite her shortcomings which are many she's still preferable to a racist sexist xenophobic religious bigoted fascist.

Hunh.

So Trump (Who I'm no big fan of) is any, or all of these?

Care to point that out? Specifically?

Not sure about your "being licked". Sounds like a cat problem. 07-coffee3

Exactly. Nobody can prove "when life begins".

If I had a cardboard box....and someone told me that there MIGHT be a baby in it....and there MIGHT just be a glob of cells in it. And that if I agreed to shoot into that box I'd be free and clear....but if I looked into that box and there was a baby in it....I'd have to take care of the baby for life.

I wouldn't be shooting into that box.

America today has rationalized that....even though they can't prove when life begins....its okay to shoot into that box.

I don't think that proves what you think it proves.

It *disproves* that anyone spent billions perfecting a boner pill. The pill was a failed attempt at a blood pressure/angina med. It's why men whose blood pressure isn't under control can't use the med. It lowers it to a dangerous level.

But intelectually empty assertions about boner pills sound cool... so carry on.

I think everyone on both sides agrees that riders to bills suck. But you have no inkling how drug companies decide what research they do, how much of it fails and where real profitability lies. Isn't this an area where the UN or the WHO could step in and resolve?

Don't point at just republicans on this Max... It's called rider-amendments from both sides of the aisle and to me it's a crappy way to get pet projects passed ...

And if we had our way (I say this as I'd like to think the general public feels), they'd be forbidden.

Donald "2 Corinthians" Trump might pay some convenient lip service to the religious right here and there, but I'm not buying he's religious at all.

Neither do most religious people. But believe it or not the religious right is not as interested in ideologically purity from their politicians as the regressive left.
