Basketball Off season tidbits
Not sure if it was mentioned in one of the other threads somewhere but:

Troy posted a few weeks ago a screenshot of Steph Curry inviting him to the Steph Curry select camp. I can't find the video or anything mentioning him, so I'm not sure if it may have been old news. From their website it says the top20 guards in the nation, but from what I can tell that's high school players.

In other news:
Ellis had a pre draft workout with Memphis.

James White, Dermarr Johnson, Yancy, Ibrahima Thomas are on teams competing in "The Tournament". It's a tourney for a $2 million cash prize. Yancy, Thomas and Justin Jackson are on a team with players Josh Selby, Lacedarius Dunn.

And Deberry wants Kenyon to contact him. Mentoring?

Will definitely have two AAC teams -- UConn and Cincinnati -- in my Preseason Top 25. Houston could possibly join if it lands Jarrett Allen.

CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 out today: #1 Duke, #2 Ky., #5 Xavier, #15 Rhode Island and #17 UConn. UC nowhere in sight again this year.

I'm sure Mick will use this as motivation, and it should work - at least until we get off to another 3-3 start in American play.

A top 10 all-time program with one of the top 25 paid coaches in the country shouldn't have to be motivated as being the underdog year-in and year-out. As a one-off snub, sure, but this has been the regular pattern for a long time.

I mean, at some point over the years, "locker room material" saying you're mediocre stops motivating you, and just becomes depressing.

What you stated makes so much sense.

I think some of us are overlooking the details. Are we really a top 10 team since 1965? Zero titles one final four and two elite eights. We may be top 25 and that is close to where Mick has been finishing. We are in a second class league and recruiting is much more difficult.

Historically yes. But history such as this gets rewritten over the decades and the recent past hasn't helped.

I don't want to open this old can of worms again--there is much to like about Mick. But one year ago I think many of us believed this past season would be the one that elevated the program one more step. It didn't happen.

We all get our feelings hurt when the "experts" on Selection Sunday pick Harvard or St. Joe over UC in the first round. Or we get snubbed (once again) in preseason polls. The choices of these experts have been corroborated by recent history.

I like Mick well enough. But motivation doesn't seem to be his strong suit.

not to be mean, but when you're the size of some of the players, I would think it'd hard to be motivated by the rantings of one of the lollipop kids.

Pretty sure they were aware of how tall Mick was before they signed here. Blows your presumption out if the water.

I'd ignore him Otto... Looks like long-lost UC "fan" Don has resurfaced under another name.

Too bad he and G had a falling out 03-weeping As entertaining as Don was/is, he WAAAAYYY overdid it.

Funny story. In my days of being a mod, I would almost always end up moving one of his anti-Cronin posts to the smack board. One time I challenged him to post something positive about Mick on the smack board. If I approved, I would then move it to the main board.

One big thing Don enjoyed was thread post numbers. He really loved seeing how many people he could goad into a response. Mind games.

I guess it went along with his love of poker.

That, and his unhealthy love of all things Huggs became tiresome.
