Still a supporter of my Alma Mater even if both coaches make it very difficult. And other posters continually tell me to go away.
This board is perplexing. TT is fair game but MC is off limits.
I'm not an anti-Cronin guy yet, but I definitely recognize there are plenty of weaknesses there. At least you're not blaming the team's performance on the conference

You can look at almost every team and find weaknesses. Even the championship team has weaknesses. Only one team overcomes their failings and wins the championship.

The level and amount of weaknesses has been far greater than anyone that has sniffed a national championship though, which is the problem.

RE: Basketball Off season tidbits
I’ve posted it before and I’ll post it again but Mick, right or wrong, has polarized the fan base. All you have to do is go back a few months to when he was flirting with UNLV. Half the fan base said “don’t let the door hit you on the way out” and the other half said no other coach can win here, blamed Mick’s wondering eye and recruiting difficulties on the decision to not remodel a locker room (even though we are getting a complete arena overhaul ) and threatened to pull support if he walked.
We are going to have to figure out how to deal with all this. Mick has seven years left on his contract (we just extended him a couple months ago). Unless he decides on his own to go elsewhere he will likely be the coach here into the 2020s.

I'm a season ticket holder, UCAT Member, for MBB & FB, Made donations to Nippert remodel & Fifth Third remodel projects. Tuberville and Cronin are good coaches. UC is lucky to have them. I estimate there are over 100 Div 1 schools that would love to have them. I assume you all have 4.0 GPA's. If not why not? ( Your to short, don't study enough, party to much, whine to much, teachers don't respect you, etc.:.) Oh I've been a season ticket holder for 15 yrs.

Tuberville is a walking retirement party.
Cronin and especially Tuberville have some flaws. People are going to point it out. Deal with it.

Coach Cronin will do just fine before and after the remodel. So will Coach Tuberville. How many years have we been in the NCAA tournament & and how many bowl games has UC gone to? Losers don't go to the NCAA tournament or bowl games. You do realize how many schools have never achieved either of the above.

You're nuts.
Since when did making the NCAA Tournament and a bowl game become the standard? Keep lowering the expectations, everybody!
Impressive accomplishment getting to the Hawaii Bowl and getting embarrassed. Great season, Tubs. Keep the momentum going!

What are your expectations? Year in and year out. I'd like to hear what you think are realistic yearly expectations?

Expectations? Let's start with making progress year to year. Not much sense to discuss others until that is accomplished. FB has regressed and MBB plateaued a few seasons ago.

Your answer avoided the question. What are your realistic yearly expectations? Put it in writing. How many wins yearly in FB and BB do you expect?

I did not avoid the question. My expectations are for improvement. Numbers and statistics obfuscate. The eye test tells all. Anybody who has watched either program has to admit that neither is making progress. Mick's friends and family, of course will refuse to publicly admit it.

In this conference UC should be the best program. We should win 9-11 every year, maybe a slip up now and then, but ultimately win a lot of conference titles. Perhaps more important, UC shouldn't have the absolutely disgraceful embarrassing performances they've managed to repeatedly put together from time to time under Tuberville (both games at USF, Memphis 2 years ago, the bowl performances, Illinois...hell even all 3 Miami wins were shameful efforts against legitimately horrible miami teams). Maybe showing any sort of pulse on the road would be nice as well.
In basketball UC should be a top 25 program that is a top 15 team on a semi regular basis. We would be earning top 4 seeds every few years at the very least and be solidly in the tournament in the other years. We should be winning conference titles in this conference at a decent clip. We shared in year 1 regular season, which was a really good accomplishment, but have been disappointing with back to back 4th place finishes...particularly this years. The conference tournament performances have been really disappointing, though there has been some really bad luck involved as well. The basketball program is much closer to where expectations should be and has hit some of those markers, but not the high end ones. Consistently solid is nice, but they need to compete at the top more often.

I'm not normally one to do this, but I'm calling for your immediate ban over the use of the word obfuscate on a sports board.

I think that's more than fair.
Nobody expects Cincinnati to compete for national championships regularly for either sport, especially football. I do expect Cincinnati Football to be among the best non-P5 programs in the country every single year.
An occasional national title contender in basketball is an expectation too, but that won't necessarily translate to how the season ends. As we've seen over and over, the NCAA Tournament is a unique animal. You can have a great year and still not make a real deep run. Things happen. With that said, the goal is to be in the best possible situation heading into March.

Expectations in basketball? How about reclaiming the status as the best basketball program in the city by passing Xavier?

If you even expect an occasional national title contender in either sport, you are going to be perpetually bummed.
