So now throw in another rainout or 2.

A pop up thunderstorm in Dade county and a USM loss would do the trick

I wonder what the tiebreaker might be. Co-champions seems like the most reasonable result, with perhaps a coin-flip for tournament seeding (of course, I'd like to see a rule that says if one of the co-champs is defending champ, then they get the choice of seeding, but I doubt that's the rule).

Sure would've been nice if Salinas or Otto could've gotten that 3rd out in top 4 a little sooner today, but winning a series (and possibly a conference title) based on a 4.5 inning game would've been a little cheesy.
Bold prediction: USM will drop at least one game next weekend, opening the door. No prediction whatsoever as to whether our guys step through the door with a sweep.

In the bolded scenario Rice and FAU would technically be tied for 3rd, not 2nd since USM and Marshall would occupy the top two spots

You're splitting hairs; it's a matter of mere semantics.... The statement is correct. USM and Marshall would both finish 22-8 and tie for first; USM takes tie-breaker; Rice and FAU finish right on their heels a half a game back. Call it 'second'; call it 'third'.
In this scenario, either Rice or FAU wind up getting screwed by their Sunday rainout. One of the two would've notched a win in the rain game, and finished in a three way tie.
But...under that scenario, USM would have taken the tie breaker if in a 3-way with Marshall and Rice, while FAU would have taken if tied up with USM and Marshall. All water under the bridge, tho....

It is indeed a semantic point, "semantics" being the study of word meanings. And the point made was simply that when one finishes behind two other teams, one does not call it "second"; one calls it "third" -- because the words "second" and "third" have different meanings.
