As a Midwestern guy I would like to see a middle ground on Big XII expansion. Locally, UCONN doesn't move the needle one Iota. However, that is not the case nationally. A good mix would be Colorado State and UCONN. One fits geographically and culturally, the other moves the meter nationally and takes WVU off an island.

UConn doesn't take WVU off an island. UConn is 525 miles from WVU. It would just create another Big 12 island way beyond the WVU island.

UConn is just way, way too far away from the Big 12 to make any sense. Heck, UConn is closer to the SEC than the Big 12, and UConn in the SEC is ridiculous on its face. Ditto the Big 12.

The B1G and ACC are the only P5 options for UConn.

One way to look at this news is UConn's president doesn't want to take the back lash form the fan base when the Big XII takes two other schools in this round of expansion. Since she's apparently already met the president on several other occasions, why go back, when it looks like the expansion train looks like it is getting ready to leave the station again?

Wasn't the UConn president in the Bahamas with the women's team when Louisville got the invite to the ACC? I think I have read that a time or two on UConn boards ever since.

Because they're a flash in the pan in men's basketball, having only achieved success thanks to a coach that's no longer there. Other than that, they have, what? Women's basketball? I'm sure their rowing team is cool too...07-coffee3

In all honesty, I think UConn brings plenty to the table but they'd HAVE to be paired with a school that's worth a damn in football because UConn simply isn't.

Well, former AD Warde Manuel was sitting poolside sipping Mai Thai's monitoring during that time. I don't remember if President Herbst was sitting next to him doing the same, or elsewhere, but yes she was down in the Bahamas for the women's(?) tourney.
