Welcome Gerron Scissum
Transfer from VCU who committed to JMU today. 6-7 athletic forward who was a 3* recruit out of high school. He'll have 3 years left after sitting out next year.
Scissum averaged 16.4 ppg, 9.0 rpg and shot 40.2% from 3-point range during his senior season at Lee-Huntsville (AL), led the Generals to the state semifinals, was named Class 6A first-team All-State and was finalist for 6A Player of the Year. (From VCU site when signed him https://www.vcuramnation.com/2015/04/201...ts-to-vcu/ )
Lou has been stocking up on guards but now there is some front court help and the extra bonus of filling in previously non existant classes. Scissum with a year off can hopefully improve and be an impact player for the Dukes.

Doesn't that mean that someone else is gone? YoYo or Lukic?

RE: Welcome Gerron Scissum
No academic casualties as of yet. With the coaching change JMU can give a current player scholarship $ to finish school and not have it count against the scholarship limits as long as the player never plays again. Little known NCAA rule that can be used with coaching changes. JMU just needs to foot the bill for the extra scholarship which seems like they are stepping up and doing. I am pretty certain who is being put out to pasture but not going to name names until it is official. It is a fairly obvious choice.
It is unfortunate but I like the fact you can let the kids finish school where they are at with aid and not have to run the guy out of school if he doesn't fit in future plans like Lefty would have done. This won't make the player happy but the end result for the player is a degree if they work at it.

I'm thinking playing time. Wade brought him over as his first VCU commit after he initially committed to play for Tenn Chat in the Southern Conference- maybe the caliber of recruit at VCU was too great to guarantee playing time moving forward.

Looks like a great addition. Many times go to a level just above their abilities. Hope he has a great career at JMU. Another move to balance classes as well. Great job by staff.

Some VCU friends of mine think it will be good fit for us. We need forwards.

In the DNR today Scissum's high school coach gave some serious love to Lou Rowe.
Based on his original relationship with Lou from when he was being recruited out of high school, I heard that Stuckey was willing to commit to JMU without making a visit. Lot of good stuff in the air.

RE: Welcome Gerron Scissum
I am posting snippets. Not allowed to post the whole thing.
The 6-foot-7, 210-pounder — who appeared in just 13 games as a freshman last season at VCU — confirmed Wednesday that he is transferring to JMU. Describing Madison’s new staff as “persistent,” Scissum said he visited campus last month and was sold on the idea of eventually playing in what’s expected to be a fast-paced attack under coach Louis Rowe.
Scissum described JMU as “the right fit” and said he believes JMU’s coaching staff will give him a “fair shot” at earning playing time.
Rowe was an assistant at Florida International when he first recruited Scissum, Brown said, and that connection was key in landing the transfer this time around.
“Rowe has a personality that can get him in the door, you know? He knows how to be a people person,” Brown said. “And kids can relate to him, especially because of his experience, both collegiately and professionally. So at the drop of a hat, that gets the kids’ attention. He knows what kids want, he knows how to get ‘em to where they want to be. There’s just something about him that makes kids want to trust him.”

RE: Welcome Gerron Scissum
FWIW- the article also mentioned that VCU basically decided not to renew his scholarship- I think it was said that the VCU staff decided that they would go a different direction. He may not have wanted to leave but seems excited about the new opportunity and maybe it will fuel him even more moving forward. As has been said before this was Wade's first recruit at VCU so to push him out after 1 year seems like a tough deal for Scissum. The exciting thing to hear is the motor- JMU in recent years has lacked high motor guys.

Hope the kid finds a suitable school. Two DI programs have been wrong on him. Maybe he was just one of those kids who reached his peak in high school.

Scissum was not playing so this doesn't seem like much of a loss for this year team or future teams. This seems like a situation where both parties could benefit, hope he finds a good fit.

RE: Welcome Gerron Scissum
Well, 75% of Rowe’s first recruiting class was a disaster.
Vince Holmes gone after one year.
Terrence Johnson gone after one year.
Gerron Scissum gone after 1.5 years.
When hired, Rowe’s only thing to hang his hat on was the ability to recruit. Somehow he misfired on 3 out of 4 recruits in his first class.

RE: Welcome Gerron Scissum
does that adversely affect our APR when players leave? or does it hurt only if they drop out of college completely?
