The obvious problems of retention and development arose shortly thereafter, but I'm not overly worried at this point.

That was Pastner's first rodeo; this ain't Tubby's first rodeo.

Pastner had an experienced bunch though...Kemp, Mack, Sallie, Witherspoon, Niles, and Garcia (off a redshirt) along with Coleman.

To Pastner's credit, he immediately went after Latavious, Nglaro and flipped Barham from SIU. Then took a flyer on DJ. And then got Elliot.

Surely, there is a flippable guy out there. A Hoopdreams has tirelessly noted, there are bunches of grad transfers that are being sought out by peer-level programs for a 1 year fix (which would have ZERO effect on 2017 numbers).

Right now Memphis has 7 schollies returning, two of which are players who didn't play or played very limited minutes and one incoming JUCO.

I would hope he could pull in two grad transfers--I think having 10 scholarship level players could suffice.

Didn't Juco signed by Pastner end up not starting for SWCC (averaged low single digits)? We need at least 12 to really practice when a couple of guys are out with injuries, classes, sick, etc. If we don't have that, it will be problematic.

Thanks for the list-know it takes a while as i am a two finger typer. Are we in on anyone for 2016 other than East coast shooter? Do you think Tubby will completely abandon Memphis? IMO, that will have dire consequences-there is some great talent and good kids in memphis for 2017.

Nothing locally in 2017

If they don't kill it locally in 18 and 19 there is a problem

Pastner won 24 games his first year. Put together some players who didn't hurt us long term and helped by Elliot Williams who he went after very hard.

Yeah, hence the euphoria and comparisons to all-time coaching prodigies. Shine came off of that apple pretty quickly. I don't know if he lucked into DJ or spotted something in him that he wanted, but DJ made him look pretty smart with the way he turned out.

Tubby won't win as much as Josh. He doesn't have Conference USA to help inflate his record.

AAC would have had 5 NCAA bids if the best team (SMU) had not been on probation-SEC had 3.

He doesn't have to win as high a percentage-just beat more than just the cupcakes and pull off an upset here and there. That will (hopefully) translate to success in the NCAA.

Like beat someone with equal or more talent. Did Josh ever do that in 7 years. I'm not talking about top 25 wins. I'm talking about beating a team where he didn't have the talent edge.

Maybe Ok St. Maybe Gonzaga. Maybe. If he did, it's a really short list.

I think we had more talent than Gonzaga for sure. Louisville and Ok State were close
