Coach Smith and staff are recruiting hard. They have offered several of the top 50 players for 2017 from Miami to Seattle. Thus far, they haven't offered anyone from Memphis.

Should we be happy or sad?

Clearly wants you to be more miserable.

Clearly wants you to be more miserable.

Is that possible? And would that make you happy or sad?

Wasn't he the "nattering 9" guy?
I'm thrilled to have a Coach who actually knows what to do and doesn't need anyone's approval to do his job. Building for the future is the way to go! Good luck reeling in some solid recruits.
17 of the top 100 actually

You can ask all you want. I just care about the "gets."

As you posted on post 13. Smart posters don't need a link.
I don't want to be tried for heresy here, but as I recall, Pastner went into his first season with less than a full roster of scholarship players (Malik Thomas, anyone?), too. It allowed him to take his lumps his first year, and then load up on scholarship players the next season.

The obvious problems of retention and development arose shortly thereafter, but I'm not overly worried at this point.

That was Pastner's first rodeo; this ain't Tubby's first rodeo.

Ideally, it would be nice to have a Memphis player. BUT, if we are to become a more competitive on a national level, Smith is making the best move, recruit nationally. That is something Pastner was REALLY lacking and I was very frustrated with. I think Smith should recruit the Top 50 every year. Pastner hardly did that either.

We might get lucky and get a Top 10, and once you get one and have a great year, you will build a reputation for future Top 10 players. I think Smith is just looking to fill the roster for now.
Will memphis experience a recession if tubby recruits nationally.
