1. Take the conference to 16 teams and rebrand "The Big 16". Adding in USF as one of the teams of course.
2, Fold the LHN into the Big 16 Conference Network.
3. Give Texas three shares of the Big 16 Conference network revenue and the rest of the members one share. Problem solved.
first the votes do not exist to expand to 12, much less 16 and if they did it is doubtful USF would be one of them. Secondly, they have nothing to gain by making the Longhorn net the b 16 net. zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
This is actually where you are wrong considering that USF has been discussed in the room. If 6 were added USF would defintely be one. If four were added, ive been told we have a VERY good chance. If only 2 are added, I am not holding my breath but like ive said, I dont care since the Big 12 will be dead within 7 years.
OU and Texas will not be in the Big 12 after this contract expires. ISU, KSU, Baylor, TCU and WVU all have no options. (and no, the ACC isnt taking them) 5 Members is enough to keep the Big 12 alive and collect exit fees. I also tend to think that Kansas might not have a home either.
Those 6 will end up rebuilding the Big 12 and the #1 thing they will need is MARKETS, since they will need to put together a network. Houston, Uconn, USF and UCF all have VERY large markets and will get an invite. BYU has a large nationally following. Cinci has been a shoe in for quite some time. That gets you to 12. I doubt they would leave a football rich area like Memphis alone, so theres 13. If they are smart, they pick up Temple and Navy. Again, HUGE markets and with Navy, Temple, WVU and Uconn all being up in roughly the same geographic area, the overlap of alumni may help them get into markets that a single team couldnt get on their own. I personally would round out that group with either Air Force or CSU. Thats 16 and honestly is a conference every bit as good as the ACC.

You want to play in the Eastern time zone. The ACC may be a weaker conference but their time zone and population base will ALWAYS make them a better choice over the B12 and Pac12. 80% of the population lives east of the Mississippi river.
I know exactly where you are coming from because I used to think this, BUT with the B1G new money, I am fairly convinced they are targeting UVa and UNC.
If that ever happens, the only other market driver in the entire conference is FSU (given Miami's weakness). And FSU might look around and say, um, BC, Wake Forest, little burgs in Syracuse and Louisville, Blacksburg, uh, we might look better hanging out with Texas and also taking Clemson with us.
If UVa and UNC go, the ACC loses most of its appeal.
So I agree that right now the ACC has huge population centers, but many of the schools tied to those centers are small. The ACC simply can't afford to lose UNC and Virginia, because if that happens, the B12 instantly becomes the more viable conference.
I think the B1G is probably after FSU too. I think they ultimately would like to overlap the SEC areas. They could soon be in position to grab UNC, UVA, GA Tech, and FSU.
Soon, as in as soon as they figure out how to buy out both the GOR and the exit fee for each and every targeted school, you mean?
I mean as in if the B12 launches a network leaving the ACC behind in that aspect of the arms race between the P5. I don't think anyone will challenge the GOR but they'll give their notice about departing before its renewed.
2025 ?

What exit fee? I thought the agreement to surrender Tier 1, 2 TV rights to conference for 6 years was in lieu of an exit fee.

A statement from our AD to the Iron Bulls (Our highest donor level). He personally has worked under 4 of the Big 12 ADs and still speaks with our former Assistant AD who is the head of Kansas.
I am not saying we have a strong chance. I think its less than 5% but we do know that his persistence and relationships have at least got us discussed. Where we fall on the list is unknown.
Now total rumor is that USF and UCF have been working on a combined pitch. We know working together we have a better chance. This is why I think that if they were to decide on a network, that they may go to 14...and then we both would have a good chance.

I just don't see Texas allowing a conference network to happen without giving up the LHN which will never happen.
