How is the city of Tuscaloosa doing as far as rebuilding and healing?
Tuscaloosa rebounded fairly quickly and well. The state pulled together which is what I would expect of Alabamians. In retrospect the scary part to me is that it was 5 years ago. It seems like it happened just a few months ago to me. We once had a funeral home around here that handed out nice ink pens to local businesses. The pen had the name of the mortuary on the side with this motto, "Time flies." I used to think that was pretty funny. It gets less funny every year now.
We live in Huntsville. I was home with the wife and a 3 week old baby that week. Fortunately for us, her parents lived in Florence at the time, so we hopped in the car that night and stayed there for a few weeks until the power came back. Our house was ok, although our roof took a beating and got replaced courtesy of State Farm. We're going to retire near the beach - at least you know when a hurricane is coming
