What is that about, I wonder? Having to hire Lawson? Being "nudged" towards hiring an Xs and Os guy?
He really thinks the problem here was that the assistants weren't sufficiently loyal to him?
Obviously they played golf or had a life aside from coaching. JP is losing it, he has had success in his life by controlling every aspect of it & where he can't control it he fails. This will not end well for JP if he doesn't quickly learn how to lead.
1) He was on the 'hot seat' the minute he took the job. Blindsided by Austin leaving (in June before the season started in November).
2) Memphis is very intense job.
3) People debated recruits, media relations, which airline he took--scrutiny under a microscope.
4) Gonna take time at Tech.
5) Experience at Memphis will help him get Tech to championship level.
6) Biggest lesson from Memphis to carry over:
a) took 4 scholarship players and expected to win 30 out the gate at Memphis
b) it's a rebuild at Tech
c) gonna take time
d) not gonna happen overnigh
Has a more defined idea of how to run the program. Clear vision. Evolved in recruiting.
7) One thing to accomplish in 1st 2 weeks:
a) re-energize fanbase and recruits
b) rejuvinate, we, us, together mentality
c) can only eat an elephant one bite at a time
d) gonna take a step backwards to take two steps forward
8) Three years from now:
a) plays fast, uptempo
b) fans like they play fast, high tempo, hot potato, high assists
c) get right talent
d) gonna take time
e) hall of famers in league
9) Staff has to be fully aligned with Josh.
10) Will hire 1 former HC as assistant. Timeline? Wants to hire guys aligned. Not him aligned to them, but them aligned to him. Nothing can be off kilter, there has to be alignment.
11) It's a rebuilding job. Picked last in ACC. Not a lot of recruits to choose from. Two studs can change program. Looking to get them in 17 and 18. Taking time on staff. Gonna scrap to win. Gonna be picked last.
I just don't see him getting any high level assistants.
Number 10 looks like a shot at either Keelon or Damon
You may know that seven of ESPN’s top 60 recruits for the 2017 class are from Georgia, though two are already committed elsewhere. ESPN’s top 25 prospects for 2018 includes two from Georgia and a third, for what it’s worth, from Memphis.
Pastner said that he developed relationships with some elite in-state players in the 2017 class while at Memphis. There were others that he had not, that he would be coming in cold on.
So basically pastner is going to hold some GT scholarships until 2018 and make a run at local memphis talent. Am I reading this right?

Quote:Shiloh High guard Josh Okogie, Wheeler forward Romello White and forward Christian Matthews of Fort Washington, Md., had not made final decisions as of Tuesday on staying with Tech. Pastner is scheduled to meet with Matthews on Thursday. And, of the returnees, Pastner said that he was under the impression that they were all returning, although he acknowledged that “a guy or two there might be a little question mark.”

I read that to mean he was pursuing in state Georgia talent.

Not one assistant coach went with him to GT. That says a lot.
