Someone to watch out for
We had our first live scrimmage of the spring today. It was the first live action for a 4 star LB that we had sitting out as a prop last year. He's 6'2", 240 and is just noticeably on a different level. We have had back to back DPOTY winners from the LB spot, and this guy is a step up. On one play today he was set up in the box to blitz the B gap, QB saw it and threw the quick screen to the outside, this kid saw it and makes the tackle on the outside for a 1-2 yard gain. That just doesn't happen. In addition to the size, he has speed and play recognition that's unreal. If he stays healthy he's an NFL player, somewhere in the first three rounds.

Pretty sure he sat out as a transfer. I could be wrong, but he signed with Arizona St out of JUCO and then was dismissed and came here.

Sun Devils coach Todd Graham:
Quote:“If you make exceptions, you end up with a team full of exceptions,” Graham told SI.com.
He had been depended on to be a pass-rushing presence for Arizona State and was the first five-star recruit signed by Graham during his tenure in Tempe.
“He’s done,” Graham told SI.com of Durant. “We parted ways. He put himself in that position. It’s a bad deal, but you’ve got to have accountability. We don’t just talk about character and discipline. We live it."
Wow. Coming from Mr. Character himself, travellin' Todd Graham, just blows the mind.

Has to take out that anger somewhere...
When Graham is lecturing about character the guy must be a real winner. Well done Marshall.
Same drill here. He'll either tow the line or he'll be gone. Doc has shown that he will give kids a chance, but that he will not hesitate to drop even a star player. I mean he dropped two of our best running backs, in back to back years for similar stuff.

If he gets in the slightest bit of trouble he is gone. It's funny to me that everyone always talks about second chances, and then a guy ends up on the opposing team and second chances are the dumbest thing ever.

Baylor gives people "a chance" too.... I'm glad he doesn't hesitate to drop them but at some point you shouldn't bring a player on campus. Even if he is going to be "someone to watch".

For the kids' sake, hope he learns to control himself and right his own ship. College Football only last 4 or 5 years, but he will have to deal with his issues and their repercussions for the rest of his life. It's not necessarily dumb to give someone a second chance, it's dumb when the guy doesn't give himself a second chance and blows it. Look forward to hearing how the season ends up for him.

Doc has had no trouble in dismissing players in the past. Stewart Butler, AJ Graham, AJ Leggett and Kevin Grooms are just a few Doc has told to hit the road. If Durant screws up he will be on the 1st train out of town.

Agreed and it's a double standard in a way. If a kid screws up at school A and the coach doesn't dismiss him then coach A is considered a school for thugs. However, if/when said player goes to school B then coach of school B is usually given a pass a majority of the time and is praised for giving the player a 2nd chance.

I don't know why fans of other schools do this....
for the most part if a kid or group of kids helps lead your team to 9,10,11,12 wins. Not many (if any) care about the trouble they got in at another school. I know some will say, not me, I care, I say BS, to most fans of a sports team...
just win!
Hey if he missed up at another school he was a thug...once he wears the home teams gear, he's misunderstood or not really a bad person. I feel the same way. Our butthole players are just a little misunderstood. Hell once they wear the WKU, they are close to saints. Well as long as they are making plays to help get those wins up.
Fans that say different are not being 100% honest

Nope. I don't want anyone playing for Rice that has been charged with beating his girlfriend. You can get a second chance in society but we better not be giving you a second chance to play D1 football at Rice.

And this is probably one reason why Rice is in the worst ever version of C-USA, and Texas, Baylor, TCU, and others have left you behind. Im not making fun of you either. If this is a choice Rice made in regards to their student athletes then I commend you for sticking to your guns.
