2. Tubby is a no-show for an 8:30 am mtg on Wed. Tubby didn't tell anyone he'd be a no-show? Then what was the call 15 hours earlier? I'm in the car driving to meet the Memphis people. Doesn't it make sense he's not driving to Amarillo, getting to Chile's and immediately sitting down with the Memphis people talking over chips and salsa? Chances are he's driving to Amarillo, getting a hotel room, getting a good night's sleep the talking with the Memphis people in the morning (Wed morning).

3. Wed at 11:00 Tubby's not answering his phone after being a no-show. Couldn't that be because he was actually IN the meeting -- the same meeting he told Holcutt about the night before -- with the Memphis people at that time? Maybe Tubby should've been ticked off that his AD was ringing his phone even though he told him he was going to be in a mtg.

Hey UMBlueGray. Yes, respectfully, I think you might be missing something. Takes less than 2 hours to drive to Amarillo from Lubbock, so no I didn't get the sense that Holcutt was being unreasonable. If you watch the video, Holcutt seems sincerely shocked that Tubby jumped on a plane, and didn't just meet our guys in Amarillo. Makes sense to me. People in more remote areas drive 2 hours like you and me drive to Kroger.

And Wed. at 11:00, Holcutt GETS a return call from someone representing Tubby, or maybe the media, saying Tubby is in Memphis. Not from Tubby. So doesn't matter if Tubby was in a meeting at that time or not.

Timeline seems pretty airtight to me.

Well now we know. If we get a courtesy call and Tubby says he's going for an interview, then he doesn't show up for a booster meeting and goes phone silent.... we'll just have to start a bunch of new coach threads.

Just thought of something else (it's hard to get all the salient details from a 30 minute presser into a post). When Holcutt called Tubby Tuesday afternoon, after Bowen had let Holcutt know Memphis was interested in Tubby, Holcutt at first didn't know where Tubby was. Holcutt asked Tubby to come back to the Spirit Center Arena. Remember, they had just met a few hours prior to discuss Tubby's raise and contract extension. Tubby said he couldn't come back then. Holcutt asked why, and Tubby admitted he was with Donna driving to Amarillo to meet the Memphis people.

So Holcutt immediately knew this was serious, pressed Tubby to come talk to him face to face, said don't be rushed into a decision. Tubby agreed. So I think it's fair of Holcutt to expect Tubby to show up for the booster meeting Wed. a.m.

I know. I thought that was really smart of Holcutt. Red Raider fans know he wasn't asleep at the wheel, and did all he could to keep Tubby. When you give the amount of detail that Holcutt did, it's incredibly convincing.

For sure. And as you had said earlier, I liked this guy, too. Felt kinda bad for him, actually.

And wished we had a young guy for our AD who could communicate like him. He's really sharp.

He's going to Los Angeles with Tubby a week ago to get the Wooden award. Taking Tubby and Donna out to dinner in LA discussing the future. Golfing with him at a nice country club in LA. Offering him 5 more years and a raise. What else could Holcutt do? He has nothing to be ashamed of.

At 6:45 am today, exactly one week later, Coach Smith called to say he was leaving Texas Tech."

If anyone interested, AD Holcutt actually starts the timeline in March. Going to West Virginia for a game, discussing the future with Tubby on the plane. Going to the NCAAs with the team, more interaction with Tubby.

You can tell Holcutt really likes Tubby, which I'm sure makes it hurt even more.
