You can tell Holcutt really likes Tubby, which I'm sure makes it hurt even more.

He acts genuinely hurt, but please remember the leading replacement candidate he's pursuing is the man who just agreed to be UNLVs head coach. I'd be more likely to believe he's very aggrieved if he wasn't about to do the same thing to another AD.
Notice the way he says "Memphis" throughout. Do I detect a sneer of condescension?

I'm impressed with their AD and his transparency.
I know, let's hire him too.
All these coaches and administrators think they have to tow this PC line. Never criticize or make waves. Most fans don't expect perfection, but they would like transparency.

No doubt. And Bowen handled it the right way, called him personally.
The look Holcutt had when he talked about getting the call yesterday morning, and was informed "that Coach Smith was in Memphis, Tennessee". Said the city and state. You could tell he was shocked.

Wow, tons of details. The AD, Holcutt, was professional but pissed. Gotta admit, like this Holcutt guy, young, well-spoken, sounds like he's a fighter.
Details:
Tuesday at 10:30: AD Holcutt met with Tubby in his office, presented Tubby with new, 5 year contract offer that would make Tubby "the 3rd highest paid coach in the Big 12". Tubby was very happy.
Tuesday at 3:30: AD Holcutt got a "courtesy call" from Tom Bowen regarding our interest in Tubby.
Tuesday at 5:30: AD Holcutt gets in contact via cell with Tubby. Tubby tells Alcott he and his wife in car on way to meet Tiger people in Amarillo! Holcutt begged, his words, Tubby not to make a rushed decision. Tubby said he wouldn't, "but that these Memphis people are very pursuasive."
Wednesday at 8:30: Holcutt said there was a meeting at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday with Holcutt, Tubby and boosters to discuss new practice facility. Says Tubby was a no-show, and didn't tell anybody he would not be there. Holcutt said he called, but Tubby "had gone silent on me."
Wednesday at 11:00: Holcutt said at 11:00, he got a call and "learned that Coach Smith was in Memphis, Tennessse". Man, Holcutt was pissed at this point.
Wednesday at 5:00: Holcutt spoke again with Tubby, again said "Please don't make a rushed decision. I will wait for you as long as it takes." Tubby said he would not make a rushed decision. Also, Tubby did not go home to Lubbock last night, stayed in Memphis.
Thursday, today, at 6:45: Holcutt said he got a call from Tubby, Tubby told him he was taking the Memphis job.
Interesting anecdote: Holcutt and Tubby went to the Lakers - Clippers game in LA 8 days ago. They were in LA for the Wooden Award announcement. Holcutt said "At 6:45 a.m. last Thursday, Coach Smith and I were teeing off at Belleaire Country Club. Coach Smith said it was the best round he had played in years. At 6:45 am today, exactly one week later, Coach Smith called to say he was leaving Texas Tech."

This was really fascinating. He said much more than I figured he would about the timeline. Sounded very much like once Tubby was approached, he was on the Tigers hook.
I know. I thought that was really smart of Holcutt. Red Raider fans know he wasn't asleep at the wheel, and did all he could to keep Tubby. When you give the amount of detail that Holcutt did, it's incredibly convincing.
I really hope they get Beard or another good coach. Sucks to lose a coach you like.
For sure. And as you had said earlier, I liked this guy, too. Felt kinda bad for him, actually.
And wished we had a young guy for our AD who could communicate like him. He's really sharp.
He's going to Los Angeles with Tubby a week ago to get the Wooden award. Taking Tubby and Donna out to dinner in LA discussing the future. Golfing with him at a nice country club in LA. Offering him 5 more years and a raise. What else could Holcutt do? He has nothing to be ashamed of.
Despite having the millions of dollars that a Power 5 Conference team receives every year it appears that Texas Tech was sorely behind in the necessary facilities it takes to compete at a high level.
The new basketball facility will be much larger than the current facility, the Larry O. Finch Center. Funded in large part by former Memphis guard Bill Laurie, the facility will have a new weight room, new equipment, and offices for the U of M staff.
According to ESPN 92.9 WMFS the new practice facility will be completed next fall.

Now that's funny. Hopefully not a problem we will have anytime soon.
I will go on record saying that nobody is going to try to hire Tubby away from us. Nobody wants to start out with a guy in his mid 60's when you have to give him a 5 year deal at 3M+ per year. No other school is going to want that.

I thought Wolo kind of broke the story. Never doubt the connections of someone who despite their consistent miscues in a high profile position remains bulletproof 20, 30 or 40 years. Wolo is in the know when it comes to the Tigers. Not even going to speculate. #Woloscoop #Parishmustbow #Ohtheshameofitfather

RE: FASCINATING - Read This - TX Tech AD Holcutt Press Conference - He's Pissed!
This is all pretty simple.
Bowen made the courtesy call.
Tubby shared in a phone call he was meeting with Memphis reps.
Tubby made the meeting.
Tubby made the trip.
Those Memphis people were very pursuasive.
Tubby took the job.
For Tubby, Memphis offers more for his career than does Lubback.
TxTech, a fine university is starting a search for a new coach.

True. I used to fly to Lubbock a lot, two big hospitals, and a medical school. Kind of sympathized with them, cause Memphis takes unfair shots at times.
If you are a hunter or a fisherman, you would love west Texas. Problem with Lubbock is it feels so isolated out there. You are a such long way from anything.
I one time had more fun in a Lubbock Whataburger than should be allowed by law. True story.
Joe Ely* is from there too..........I know all about Buddy Holly too.
*for those that don't know he is the guy that wrote "The Road goes on forever, and the party never ends" not Robert Earl Keen
I love "Gallo del Cielo," on Live From Stubbs. Killer tune.
