Does this mean he is transferring or is not? Is there a link I missed?

I believe he is going to go somewhere closer to home. I have heard he has a family member who is ill.

He is a fine young man with a nice family. They were at many games. I will miss him. Could there be another coming that we do not know about yet?

RE: kellon out as grad transfer
I know he's from Indianapolis - maybe he can get into Butler...
Even with Thomas and Jones leaving, adding Delarosa and Edwards, we still look to have 14 scholarship athletes.
Thomas leaving the roster leaves us with just 5 players who played more than 10 minutes here last year - Hall, Edwin, Avery, Walker, and Davis. 2016-2017 might be hard, but if we can hang on to the 2015 and 2016 recruits, we should be strong in 2017-2018

RE: kellon out as grad transfer
FWIW, my take on what is going on is that Rob has hit the reset button. After this year, he sees that the MAC from top to bottom is stepping it up. Length without bulk will not make it on the front line. Now, the MAC bottom feeders have decent coaches in place and they are recruiting better. Most of our competition either has or is adding bulk with size. We now have to body up and we did not have the bodies capable of that. As much as we like Kellon, he is in his fifth year and will not develop much more. He is smart and steady, but he is not cat quick as he must be at his size. The MAC is evolving from 5'10" guards to 6'2" to 6'5" guards who can shoot the 3 or drive the paint. I do not know much about the new players, but we are watching a quick transforming of our team. I do know that with athletes like Walker, Avery, and Andrews (if he qualifies), along with Hall, we are seeing a different approach to the game. If I am correct, I am glad that Coach Sendy is seeing that the game has changed and we want to play it.

While I agree that Senderhoff is changing his recruiting tactics, I hope that Kellon didn't get pushed out. It won't be easy to replace a 12+ ppg point guard. And if you're replacing 5'11" Thomas with 6'0" Avery, that ain't a big difference. With Avery giving us 0.9 ppg on 24% shooting, I think he needs another year to develop.
I started following the Flashes when LeBron James left Cleveland, because I wanted to follow a team I agreed with. If I see players like Kellon Thomas being shown the door, I don't think I'd follow the Flashes. For now, I believe the 'sickness in the family, moving closer to home' story - if he ends up in New York or California, maybe I won't believe that.

i don't believe in the bulked up bigs change at all. Nationwide its more about stretching the floor and finding athletes and shooters. There are a lack of big bulky bodies and if they do exist they will have many opportunities greater than the MAC.
In Kellon's situation I'd suspect he came to kent and got his degree. mission #1 accomplished. His pro prospects wont change whether at kent, butler, valpo or any other program. I'd suspect in his mind he's done the KENT/MAC grind for 4 years got his degree and figures he may regret it down the road if he didn't try something new and try to play at a higher level or different place.
I don't like the rule but with todays kid and reduced loyalty and always seeking the next new thing this thinking is in line with what I see in the workplace with these 20 somethings.

I did not mean to imply that Kellon was pushed out. I do not believe that Rob is that type. He would however make it easy and assist if there is a mutual benefit. As for Avery, his upside is high. Look for improvement. Also, I would not be surprised to see a new face coming along. If I am correct about transformation, it may not be over for this year.

Well this is certainly unfortunate. I guess the great wildcard, Ridenour, could be more important than we thought. Still like what we have coming in but this much turnover likely will mean a lot of growing pains. I'll be curious to see which of the current players/recruits won't end up here next year as we're still one over the limit.
Anyways, best of luck to KT. I enjoyed watching him play. His hard nosed all effort style of play is always appreciated. Hope he goes somewhere good and makes the tourney next year and I hope his family member is ok.

Yes, KT will graduate this summer and is transferring to a school in Indiana to be closer to his family. There is no hidden agenda/showing of the door by KSU Men's Basketball staff. Both of those comments per Allen Moff of the RC.

The Kent Stater quoted him as saying he has been contacted by Minnesota, Purdue and Northwestern. I hope he gets some other contacts as I don't see him being a B10 player.

I believe Armon Gates is at Northwestern.

I am hearing some pretty strong rumours that Kellon may simply be just the beginning. I hope they aren't true.

I hope we don't have an Ohio St. situation coming. No matter what individual reason each player gives and how much sense each one makes, it still means problems when three or four players leave at the same time (so far two players and a coach for us). It means the program is not good enough to keep them around. They feel they can't lose anything by moving on. That's where the women's program got to. All this program needs is one single digit win season and it will be in the same place. Let's hope not.
