RE: Tulane professor suggests removing Andrew Jackson statue from Jackson Square
The Battle of New Orleans and his actions in gaining Florida far outweigh his flaws.

Very proud to be a Tulane grad right now. This professor should be received as a hero and hopefully with hard work and dedication we can remove all offensive material from this country. Andrew Jackson was a racist tyrant who owned slaves, his statue should be removed so that our African-American brothers and sister do not have to feel the sting of slavery every time they past by the statue of this horrible human being. After Jackson, Jefferson, Washington and whoever else owned slaves will be removed from history hopefully. One day we will live in a hate free society where there is no mention of the horrible monsters of our past. Hooray Tulane.
Did you know Paul Tulane (who Tulane University is named for) was the largest donor in New Orleans to the Confederate States of America during the Civil War?
It gets better... Paul's father made his money employing slave labor in Haiti, thus providing for his son's financial cushion to start businesses and colleges in New Orleans.
Will you film the burning of your diploma and post it here please?
Responding to that poser doesn't work. He is no more a Tulane person than I am. He is merely here to flame, make Tulane look bad and try to run up his negative rep count. He is doing a rather bang up job of the latter I must admit.
that's all some of these pin heads know....they didn't play sports or go outside and make up games with friends....
they deserve the 'freedom' that will eventually follow......

Quite false tiny, I am a Tulane grad and love my school. As for it's questionable past, the institution today is bigger then one horrible person from years ago. We stand for what is good and just not like your school and state that wants to discriminate against minorities and homosexuals. Tulane is bigger then one man's hate, Andrew Jackson however is not and he must be erased from New Olrean's history as well as U.S. history.
Translating the above post: Yes I was owned in a most epic fashion. No, I won't be offering a retraction at any time and in fact will double down on the ownage by ignoring it.

I would figured that a Tulane grad would know the difference between "than" and "then"

What America could really benefit from right about now is 100,000 or so men of Andrew Jackson's character and caliber. But I'd trade all of Tulane's current admin./faculty and about 1/2 the students for just 1,000 of them.
