GS has one of the smallest budgets in FBS. Home and home with P5 is not really in our financial interest until after another stadium expansion. The fact that ESPN wants GS on TV playing 3 other top teams in the conference is a compliment. Maybe if we suck for a couple of years and have zero TV games our fans will be happy getting all Saturday games. ESPN is giving us 3 three hour national commercials. Building name recognition for your product is huge in marketing.
I think that those of us who donate and buy season tickets, are pretty much
On board with growing the brand recognition through TV.
I wouldn't call these people gripping moaning selfish fans when they only get three Saturdays at Paulson. The distance some of us travel to home games make it difficult if not impossible to make Thursday night games when we have to work the next day. I don't have to travel as far as many and I'll find a way to get there, but tailgating and such with lots of our friends is out due to work. When I'm off, I'm not really off because I have standby emergency responsibilities. I have to have someone else cover, those people are only available on the weekends or nights. That means I can't leave town until 5\6 PM on a mid week game, and have to be back in that pocket area the next morning. A sacrifice I understand, but we shouldn't be ask to do it this much.
But, my wife can't go. My little girl can't go. I'm trying to "raise her in the way of the righteous so that she will not depart from it when she is old". That's quality family time that we pay a lot of money to secure. 11 weeks between..... And only three total. That runs about 3 Grand. I'll keep my end up, but that's me. How many won't? That's a hard package to sell to, to someone who isn't as Eagle fanatic as I am.
Personally, I'm a lifer and you won't find anyone more true blue to the core.. But we don't have to like this. A bigger issue is trying to expand season ticket holders like this. You say "all Saturday games" as if that is what we are asking for. It isn't, you have to understand that at some point there will be negative outcomes from playing too often mid week, or rather not often enough at home on Saturday. Going eleven weeks between home Saturdays gives too many people who don't travel and can't make mid week games, too much time to lose what might have been a building interest or worse... Keep up with another red headed team from Georgia Northern.
Man I can see that we have to play mid week sometimes, but three is asking more than we should be asked to do. I would have made the Ark state game had it been on a Saturday.
