1. App State's chances of beating Miami just went down.

2. UL now goes on the road for a Thursday game with (we assume) a top conference opponent.

3. Georgia Southern's season ticket sales and attendance average just took a hit.

A win-win for the conference! I wonder since the game is at App if they had the power to move the game if ESPN wanted it.

Would App State's chances of beating Miami have been better if we played them on Friday?

to summarize,

1. both App and Miami wanted/demanded the game be played on Sat, taking in consideration GS being forced into playing a Thursday night game never was discussed ( though, got to admit, its an unexpected bonus)

2. your not going to get any support from App fans considering what we went thru with our schedule last year, its your turn for a ****** schedule, suck it up.

wut?

So a total of two games in Stateboro that aren't against Savannah State? Ew.

It happens when ESPN desires your team to play on their network.

After this season you guys will have had 2 weekday home games in 3 seasons. We will have had 5. That's with you having more games against UL and StAte, who are obviously among ESPN's favorites. Who's doing more sucking it up?

From the fan perspective, the schedule isn't that bad because we have two games in Atlanta. The games in the dome and Georgia Tech in 2014 were a lot of fun, so there's that. But that doesn't help our bottom line.

Even if we could renegotiate the TV contract before this season the money we would gain would probably be less than what we lose in revenue from games getting moved to Thursday. As long as we're making a pittance on TV and not making MAC-like money, we might as well either limit how many times a school has to play on a weekday at home or change the way the TV money is distributed.

RE: GS to play UL on ESPNU
Man, I like being on TV... but 3 home Saturdays per year really blows.

The Atl games are fun, but tailgating ain't the same.

I was really looking forward to a huge crowd and tailgating with Cajun food that weekend. The one real marque Saturday we had. Guess ULM just became the good weekend.

Here is what REALLY REALLY blows.....
Now, after opening day - against a Savannah State team that we probably hang 80 on - we go on the road to USA, then back home the next week and get a Saturday against ULM.

Guys, we don't play on Saturday at home again until the LAST GAME OF THE SEASON... until Conference Championship Saturday when we play Troy at home.

04-jawdrop That's 11 Weeks between home Saturdays. 04-jawdrop

Overall on the year, 3 mid week games in one season.

Can we not get at least 1 big conference game on a Saturday in Paulson?
That's not a knock on ULM or Troy - I really like those programs, but they haven't really been atop the conference lately.

Homecoming is still the UL game too... I understand why this is happening and believe it is probably the best for the school, but considering the money I spend on this I'm pissed. I'm sure I'll get over it but I've been looking forward to hosting UL or stAte for several years now and now I can't make it.

cant blame you for being pissed, it looks like the group that's going to pay the price going forward is the season ticket holders. For programs such as App and GS who are desperate to grow this group, it makes it really hard to convince fans to put down their money for 3, maybe 4 Sat home games.

We feel your pain. App got hosed on scheduling last year. I'm noticing very inconsistent scheduling on the part of the SBC schedulers. Each season someone seems to draw an extremely short straw.

Do not criticize the KarlBot 2000 random schedule generation algorithm. All complaints will be brought to the attention of Sun Belt Conference administration and will be dealt with accordingly.

Blame either ESPN, Wright Waters (the former SBC commish who brokered the ESPN deal) and/or BOTH. This is our TV deal and this is how it works, unfortunately. Let's hope Mr. Benson is working HARD behind the scenes to ensure much better compensation for our teams and the Belt.

I can understand the griping and moaning from a selfish fan's perspective, From a program building perspective, this schedule is to be expected. GS has one of the smallest budgets in FBS. Home and home with P5 is not really in our financial interest until after another stadium expansion. The fact that ESPN wants GS on TV playing 3 other top teams in the conference is a compliment. Maybe if we suck for a couple of years and have zero TV games our fans will be happy getting all Saturday games. ESPN is giving us 3 three hour national commercials. Building name recognition for your product is huge in marketing.

This schedule is really going to test the mettle of our new coaching staff. Baptism by fire.

I think that those of us who donate and buy season tickets, are pretty much
On board with growing the brand recognition through TV.

I wouldn't call these people gripping moaning selfish fans when they only get three Saturdays at Paulson. The distance some of us travel to home games make it difficult if not impossible to make Thursday night games when we have to work the next day. I don't have to travel as far as many and I'll find a way to get there, but tailgating and such with lots of our friends is out due to work. When I'm off, I'm not really off because I have standby emergency responsibilities. I have to have someone else cover, those people are only available on the weekends or nights. That means I can't leave town until 5\6 PM on a mid week game, and have to be back in that pocket area the next morning. A sacrifice I understand, but we shouldn't be ask to do it this much.

But, my wife can't go. My little girl can't go. I'm trying to "raise her in the way of the righteous so that she will not depart from it when she is old". That's quality family time that we pay a lot of money to secure. 11 weeks between..... And only three total. That runs about 3 Grand. I'll keep my end up, but that's me. How many won't? That's a hard package to sell to, to someone who isn't as Eagle fanatic as I am.

Personally, I'm a lifer and you won't find anyone more true blue to the core.. But we don't have to like this. A bigger issue is trying to expand season ticket holders like this. You say "all Saturday games" as if that is what we are asking for. It isn't, you have to understand that at some point there will be negative outcomes from playing too often mid week, or rather not often enough at home on Saturday. Going eleven weeks between home Saturdays gives too many people who don't travel and can't make mid week games, too much time to lose what might have been a building interest or worse... Keep up with another red headed team from Georgia Northern.

Man I can see that we have to play mid week sometimes, but three is asking more than we should be asked to do. I would have made the Ark state game had it been on a Saturday.

RE: GS to play UL on ESPNU
I added a season ticket this year.

This will in no way affect my decision to purchase season tickets. I will be at every home game, rain or shine. My decision is not based on what the school gives me based on my purchase. I do it because I want my seats every year. Those are MY seats, to hell with anyone else getting them.

I might not be able to make all the away games, but that's the tradeoff I make.

I usually sit there when I see you post you can't make it.

Thanks for the extra seat!
