FYI the video is misleading. Neither 'featured' person in the video was an employee of the university. These are private citizens.

Sure. Im hiring for manufacturing jobs and don't have the need to go that much in depth. An interview and drug test is usually all I need to make a decision. Just in the last couple of years have I started searching Facebook if it is someone that might be on the fence with me. I have used what I found as a part of that evaluation.

I started doing it after attending one of those mini-seminars about social media at a fire conference. I initially took it as a way to waste the 45 minutes between the two seminars I was really there for, but it ended up being the one I took the most home from. This was when social media really started exploding and the speaker was the Deputy Chief of Personnel at a very large department. He said that he was initially the idea of a recruit of theirs who after suffering an injury during their basic training was doing courier work awaiting the next class to get to the point he would be caught up to continue his training. From the mouths of babes I guess.

At first I was really surprised at what people would put out there, but eventually that went away. I also know from working with them on an arson case that one of the first places law enforcement looks when they identify a suspect in a crime is social media. It didn't work in our case, but I know of several tat they made arrests based on what the suspect themselves posted.
