Anything can happen once the Tournament starts. I go back to the hiring comparison. And the fact that Princeton had a top 50 RPI tells you all you need to know about RPI. Syracuse probably shouldn't have been in but it had zero to do with relative RPI.

And they shouldn't be in due to?

Going .500% playing one of if not the toughest unbalanced ACC schedule?
Playing 8 Sweet 16 Teams
and several more NCAA teams
Having the most Top 50 wins versus all the other bubble teams

Or is because you think Cuse should be banned a 2nd year from the Tournament for trivial crap the NCAA found after 8 years of investigation?

According to Ken Pom's ratings, Syracuse played the 3rd easiest ACC conference schedule. Only Notre Dame and UNC played easier.

let's look-
dupe games-
Pittsburgh
Boston College
Florida St
North Carolina

compare to Pitt- who KP has as 7/15 in conference play..
dupe games-
Syracuse
Ga Tech
Louisville
Va Tech

so both get each other. Syracuse gets UNC while Pitt gets Louisville- edge Syracuse there But the other 2 games- BC and FSU for Syracuse vs Ga Tech and Va Tech- pretty big edge there for Pitt I'd say......

now for one of the toughest- Louisville
dupe games with
Pittsburgh
Virginia
Ga Tech
Duke

So no, Syracuse didn't have one of if not the toughest ACC schedule.

I said before the Tournament Syracuse shouldn't have been in and I stand by that. It's water under the bridge though. FTR, I think Saint Mary's and San Diego State are the teams I'd replace them with due to winning their conference and making their conference final. Syracuse struggled down the stretch and seemed to be excused for Boeheim's suspension, which should have been looked at as it was. It's not as if he was out for cancer treatment, he committed penalties and was punished.

It's hindsight being 20/20 to think them making the Final Four changes anything, similar to Mason and VCU.

When it comes to tournament selections, the word "should" has no place. The committee, as it is constituted at any given time, is charged with making a subjective judgment about who to invite. There are no objective standards, and frankly there can't be (or you wouldn't need a committee in the first place).

I don't think you should get rewarded because you win garbage conferences regular season. I'm sorry but the MWC and the WCC just were not that good. St Mary's schedule this year wasn't good at all. The MWC was pathetic this year.

I'm going to burn for this, but Syracuse clearly had the best wins of any school on the bubble. Neutral wins vs Texas A&M and UCONN in addition to wins at Duke, vs Notre Dame, and vs St Bonaventure. Let's be real...no one else on that bubble had anything close to that. 07-coffee3

Boeheim himself did not commit any penalties. He didn't lie to the NCAA like the SMU coach did. A couple of tutors helped Fab Melo cheat on a paper. And a couple of bb players as well as a couple fb players volunteered at a boys and girls club and were paid under the table by a booster. There were a couple of self reported drug test failures. This happened under his watch. It was the result of an 8 year investigation and that's all that they found. The fb program also received punishment.

Regardless, he was suspended and their resume should be looked upon as such.

ratings out for the elite 8...
Saturday (CBS):
Oklahoma-Oregon: 7.695M

Sunday (TBS):
Syracuse-UVA: 7.588M
Notre Dame-UNC: 10.112M
