04-jawdrop Indeed she is... I'd be ecstatic if they targeted him.

His personality is a perfect fit for a city like Cincinnati. He has the aura about him. Unfortunately for him a small football town like Auburn is just a really bad fit. Obviously, no clue if he'd even listen, but I have seen mention that he'd like to get out of Auburn if another opportunity comes up.

Yeah, but Auburn's "ethics" are more in-line with Pearl's.

That's making a deal with the devil I couldn't stomach.

**** that. What did he do that so wrong? As long as it wasn't on par with the stuff that was going at UL then I don't care. Hell at this point if it means getting better recruits, by all means bend the rules as far as possible.

I'd take Pearl in a heartbeat....over Cronin too.

Bruce Pearl would be an interesting guy to go after.
There were problems at UT while he was there...not sure if that would preclude him from consideration.

He lied about hosting a recruit at a BBQ at his house. BFD. If his daughter goes here and he would be interested, then it is a no brainer IMO.

RE: Short List for new HC (if Mick leaves)
Pearl is about the only option I've seen so far that would be mildly acceptable trade off to losing Cronin.

Ono and Pearl would be quite the sideshow.

I'm with Rath on this one....you all are delusional if you think this ends up good sans Cronin. The new hire would not be better. And you still have issues with how bball is being treated.

Oh and don't kid yourself that players won't leave. Transfers galore every year. I'd bet Evans would leave. I'd say same for Caupain.

I don't know if Caupain would go I with just one year left to play. I would worry about Evans, Jennifer, and Scott though.

Evans might transfer since he's a freshman. Caupain has one year left...transferring would require sitting out a year to have only one more year left. Guess we will find out how much they loved Mick based on whether they stay or go especially with Caupain.

I don't believe that the sky is falling.
If Mick goes, he goes. Next man in.

LOL Yeah what he did was absolutely minor in comparison to what has gone on under Pitino.

Players come and go...cant worry about someone who doesnt want to be here...same as Downey, you make decisions and live with results

I wouldnt worry about Evans either, he has a starting position with a veteran point gaurd, doesnt have to sit out a year and plays most games on TV...he will be fine

03-pissed 03-banghead I can't have nice things.
I dread even looking at who's available right now. The only upside, is that there aren't a whole lot of high major vacancies to fill at the moment.

+1. And it was one instance, it wasn't some on-going thing with recruiting violations. It was a single violation...

He may not. I just threw his name out there because he's been a very successful coach and I think his personality would be a great fit in a city like this...plus there have been rumors that he's wanting to get out of Auburn. The whole daughter thing can't hurt either...

Agree with this. Always liked Pearl--plays a fun style, great with the media, good recruiter. Don't think it's very likely he comes here, but I'd at least be happy with the replacement.

To me, the likelihood that Cronin takes UC to the next level is much higher than some replacement doing so, and we've already seen that Cronin's downside risk is pretty much a 9-10 seed in the tourney, whereas there's no telling how poorly some new coach could do. Would show pretty awful decision-making from the administration if they let this happen, much less actually want it to.

Pearl is a big personality and an excellent recruiter and tactician. But, no thanks. It would only reinforce the negative image that the University has spent ten years cleaning up.

UC has done pretty well with up and coming coaches from mid-major programs: Huggins, Cronin, Kelly and Jones. This became a big stage for these guys and each in his own way became quite successful.

Can Cronin be replaced and the program continue to rise? Sure. He's been very good but not spectacular. He doesn't have P5 schools lined up to hire him if UNLV tops his list. That should bring some realism to any discussion about the estimation of his worth to top tier athletic programs.

Totally agree with all of this. The likelihood of making a better hire than Cronin is slim to none.

Pearl is one of the few I would actually be excited about.

I don't understand why people are so concerned about that. I don't recall there being any big blow up in the media when Auburn hired him. And the fact that someone else hired him first after his firing should get UC off the hook from that standpoint...He made one mistake at Tennessee, a recruiting violation...He'll be the first to admit he didn't handle it the right way, but how many coaches out there have never committed a recruiting violation?
