I'm anxious to see this new offense. There are supposed to be some similarities to Fuente's old offense...but there will be more passes to the running backs. Cannot wait for football season. 8-)

There is (or was) an Arizona St game on YouTube from last year that I watched to get an idea of his offense. This particular game they won on a hail mary. The offense looked similar to Fuente's but that was to my eyes, could look completely different to someone who has the ability to notice minute details.

-- One note on Memphis' new offensive and defensive schemes: Versatility is the name of the game. The goal on offense is to have players like Craft who can play multiple spots, thereby limiting substitutions and pushing the pace. On defense, Memphis will have a couple hybrid spots: "Tiger" and "Spur." One is a defensive end/linebacker hybrid, the other a safety/linebacker hybrid. We'll learn more about the schemes as we see them in practice in the coming weeks and months.

I like the sounds of that.

Holgorson is likely transferring.

Dave said on the radio this morning that he found out yesterday that he is no longer with the team but he didn't know where he was going to land.

just guessing...but I'd think West Virginia or Virginia Tech.

WVU is a good bet. If not there, look for smaller Texas - like UNT - or lower level - like Commerce or Kingsville. Doubtful on Va Tech.

Story on ex-Tulane DL coach Kwahn Drake as new offensive analyst for Memphis coach Mike Norvell. http://www.si.com/college-football/2016/...ve-analyst

I'm guessing this a recruiting move as this staff seems serious about LA. Do guys often crossover - defense to offense and vice versa? Not even sure what an offensive analyst does.

So an analyst can help scout and game plan. But he can only have limited contact with players and practice, and he can't recruit. Probably a defensive eye would be used to scout for the O - help identify coverages, blitzes.

Hmm... I do not know the answer to your questions, but that is certainly interesting.

And it's interesting to note. This type of position is something Memphis football never used to get. Back when P5 schools were hiring quality control guys, we were stuck with the 9ish full time assistants allowed by the NCAA. It is evidence of the new commitment to football.

Some here like it, some don't. I do. But this is the type of thing we are talking about.

No...a hybrid TE/ FB position.

I actually suggested this at the end of last season knowing Cross was out of eligibility and that the backfield was crowded at the RB position.

Glad to hear that we will have more blocking coming out of the backfield and that the QB will sometimes be under center. Also glad to hear that we will run an attacking multiple defense. Obvious advantages to being as versatile and unpredictable as possible.
