RE: Who is going to coach at Pitt?
Pushing out Jaime Dixon for Kevin Stallings is the equivalent of replacing Ralph Friedgen with Randy Edsall.

This conference is going to eat the poor man alive. This will likely get pitifully ugly very, Very quickly.

There just is no room for retreads in this deal. The ACC is like dancin' on a whip=blade assembly line. You'll be sliced to pieces without even knowing it and yer blasted body parts droppin off at every step!

Shoulda gone for a young hungry up & comer. At least then you have a chance.

We may all being feeling incredibly sorry for poor Stally before long, and I don't wanna do that--!--makes the games uncomfortable as all hell to watch when ya know someone should just be put outta their misery every second...

He's decent. The problem is (like you said), the ACC isn't decent. It's really, really good. A "decent" team will look terrible when it has to play 4 (or more) of Syracuse/Duke/UNC/Louisville/Notre Dame/Virginia/Miami(!) in a row, with half of the games on the road.

Pitt now has a strong name, elite conference affiliation, and a strong overall program. It amazes me that they raided Vanderbilt. I agree with you. If they couldn't get a high-performing proven commodity, they should have gone with a promising up-and-comer - especially one with ties to NYC or Philly.

This will end up about as good as the last time a Pennsylvania school raided Vanderbilt for a coach (think "James from State College").

RE: Who is going to coach at Pitt?
As I wrote on the College Sports and Conference Realignment:

Look, he could turn out to be a good hire but with a young guy, they could have sold hope. They needed someone to reenergize the fanbase after Dixon left. Unless Stallings wins quickly, this could be a complete failure. Barnes just made it so much more difficult for himself and the rest of the athletic department to sell tickets and get donations - areas in which Pitt needs to significantly improve.

Right, Wake was decent and look what happened to them once conference play started.

Looking at the positive side of this. Stallings did provide quite a few upsets in the SEC. He was an able elephant hunter. I know the SEC isn't much in basketball but until the last couple years, he was considered a top three coach in the conference. Arguably only behind Calipari and Billy D.
Best of luck Pitt 04-rock
