With Basketball Season Officially Over for the AAC...
How is everyone looking for next year? I know UCF + Tulane really don't have a clue yet, but I'm interested in seeing what everyone's team will look like.

Tulsa will be replacing 9 guys!

Our roster should look like:

Returners:
TK Edogi - RS JR - 6-8, The only Manning Player left on the roster.
Jr Etou - JR Tr - 6-8, Transfer from Rutgers. Avg'd 7.4 pts + 6.6 brds as a sophomore
Sterling Taplin - So - 6-1, Played limited minutes as the 9th man off the bench
Kajon Brown - So - 6-4, Played a bit early in the season. Hasn't seen time since OOC.
Pat Birt - Sr - 6-5, The only 'known' quantity we have coming back.

Newcomers:
Travis Atson - Fr - 6-5, 3 star SF out of ND Prep. Just named to the Jordan Brand Classic NY Regional
Lawson Korita - Fr - 6-6, 3 star SF out of Arkansas. All-State team member.
Joseph Battle - Fr - 6-4, 3 star SG. Gatorade POY for the state of SC. All-State team member
Will Magnay - Fr - 6-10, Australian center... pretty green lots of potential.
Martins Igbanu - FR - 6-8, 3 star PF. All State team member in Georgia.
Corey Henderson - Jr - 6-3, WSU Transfer by way of JUCO. Avg'd 15 ppg this season.
Eugene Artison - So - 6-9, Fresno St. Transfer by way of JUCO. Avgd 14 ppg this season

We also have 1 more scholarship spot open. Most fans are hoping for a graduate transfer to help balance the classes a bit more.

Tons of potential is incoming for Tulsa. I think most fans are hoping for a season similar to Houston's this year. We also have the possibility for a foreign trip this off season, so that will give us some extra opportunity to 'gel' before November.

RE: With Basketball Season Officially Over for the AAC...
we only lose 3 from "gradution"
leron barnes- who was a workhorse despite putting up subpar stats
pollard- second team all conference
weary- never played

we are hoping/expecting a few of the bench players transfer out

we get a 3/4 star player who sat out last year
we have a 3star SG coming in
and a JC center who no one knows a thing about

we are a top 3 finalist for a super elite recruit (and his brother), and aswell as top 3 for a low 4star/high 3star guy aswell

Add in a legit big man and UH instantly becomes a primary contender in the AAC and for a single digit seed in the NCAA's.

Tulsa was recruiting that SG you guys signed. Pretty good looking player. Congrats on getting him.

RE: With Basketball Season Officially Over for the AAC...
I think we're in a bit of trouble next year. We lose two major contributors in DeCosey and Bond, and Coleman had his moments.

Josh Brown will be counted on to lead, and to score a lot more than 8 PPG.
Enechionyia needs to get much stronger this offseason, score more in the paint, rebound much better, and play significantly better defense.
Assuming Trey Lowe recovers from his car accident and is able to play, we need 12+ PPG out of him.
Alston needs to get much stronger, improve his accuracy from 3, and add a bit more to his offensive arsenal.

Who the hell knows with regards to Williams and Dingle.

Of our 3 incoming freshmen, I think we're going to expect Quinton Rose and Alani Moore to play major minutes and score. Moore is probably the most electrifying recruit we've gotten in some time and is likely the PG of the future. If he develops quickly, we could play him at the 1 and let Brown play more of a combo guard. The other true freshman is 6'11 230 center Damion Moore from Mississippi who is a bit raw, but has the potential to be a very good player in a few years. There will be minutes available at the center spot, but we'll see how much he plays as a freshman.

We have two unknowns in Aflakpui, and Ayan Carvalho, who redshirted as a freshman.

I think we need to add a 5th year player and either another 5th year or a JUCO F or SG.

I'm a bit nervous about next year as well. We really need Obi to develop significantly if we want a chance of returning to the tournament. I'm also a bit worried about Alston, he looked completely lost this year. Temple cannot expect him to play the 1 moving forward. He needs to play the 2.

I'm glad you mentioned Alani Moore -- I think he's going to be an absolutely stud for us and was severely underrated nationally.

Still want to see us move on from Dunphy. Temple has given him unreal facilities and it hasn't helped with recruiting like it should have.

Well maybe they don't have such a good record if they schedule a legit OOC, the team needed to grow and get confidence. The last two games were a reality check, they had overachieved this season.

Good description of the roster here. I think next season will play out much like this year. Temple will schedule a really tough OOC schedule and the team will struggle against the ranked teams early and beat the ones they are supposed to (although some games will be much closer than they should be) and then be ready for conference play and that will make or break them for the tournament.

My biggest concern is losing Bond. I don’t see a player on this roster from a personality standpoint who is willing to play physical and refuse to give ground inside, Bond felt like every rebound was his. I’ve seen flashes of it in Aflakpui and at 6’10 he would be perfect in that role but because of injuries this season his play was limited so who knows for sure.

Lowe plays with an edge that I like and with his size can be a real match up problem on the wing, but again does he recover 100% from the car accident?

One of the key positions for Temple in this off-season that can’t be overlooked will be the role of the strength and conditioning coach. Lowe, Alston, Obi and incoming freshman Rose all need 10 – 20 pounds of muscle to be effective.

You can say this about 3/4 of the teams in this conference. A legit big man is one of the single toughest things to find in college basketball because they are rare to say the least and you are competing against every P5, the entire Big East and the historically strong programs in the AAC for this very same kid.

Your best chance is hoping for the under recruited kid that is a project and your coaching staff can take him from raw in year 1 to an effective player by year 3.

RE: With Basketball Season Officially Over for the AAC...
For UC:

PG: Troy Caupain - probably preseason POY
SG: Jarron Cumberland - top 50 national recruit
SF: Jacob Evans - really excited about his future
PF: Gary Clark - the best returning big man in the conference
C: Kyle Washington - transfer from NC State

The bench is where it gets a little dicey. Kevin Johnson has played 20 minutes per game the past two years but he is still incredibly frustrating. Hopefully he can settle into his role as a 3 and D player. Tre Scott red shirted this past year, and can hopefully provide some quality minutes behind Clark. The backup at center is anyone's guess. Nysier Brooks looks underrated as an incoming freshman, so him contributing behind Washington would be huge. Mick also has some targets this spring (mainly Kyran Bowman and Jordan Bowden) that would do wonders to inject some depth and athleticism on the perimeter.

I'd probably peg UC as a favorite for next year due to the top 6 players, but Cronin really needs to bring in a few players that can provide quality depth for the team to be very good.

I'm going to weigh in on the bull-ish side for Temple next year. The biggest question coming in this year was Josh brown's ability to lead the team; I believe that question is settled with a resounding yes. Aflakpui will fill the inside, down-low role. Trey Lowe will become our go-to scorer, with JB being a major contributor. Alston will be able to focus on SG, with our new FR PG coming in. And yes, Owls fans, I also believe that Dingle and Williams will be significant assets as well. Lastly, Obi will make the break-through that was visible for about half this season.

Everyone in the Top 7 loses significant pieces. Some more than others. My very early preseason rankings for the American:

1. UConn
2. Cincy
3. SMU
4. Houston
5. Temple
6. Memphis
7. Tulsa
8. USF
9. East Carolina
10. UCF
11. Tulane

Basketball season isn't over for UCONN and USF (as well as Tulane and Temple).

With that said, UCONN loses Nolan (probably for the best), Calhoun, and 5th Year Seniors Miller and Gibbs (didn't really live up to his potential IMO).

Coming in is the #5 recruiting class as well as VCU transfer Larrier now eligible to play. So that's:

Seniors: Purvis, Brimah, Facey
Junior: Hamilton
Sophomores: Adams, Enoch
Freshmen: Gilbert, Jackson, Diarra, Durham
Transfer: Larrier

I think UCONN will be the AAC favorite next year.

I find it sad that the top of the conference is looking like its getting better every season, and the bottom is still in the doldrums. How is Lebo still employed?

I wouldn't be so hard on those teams since you brought it in CUSA level talent

Returning for ECU: Lebo! That's all you need to know, more of the same while he is at the helm.
