2018: Hall starts week 1.

I hope Hall wins the job like Harnish did.

Harnish was a redshirt freshman in 2008. There were lots of people advocating burning the redshirt when 2007 became a dumpster fire "to see what he could do". Well, he obviously was just barely ready in 2008 after even a year on campus and not even close to being what he would one day be.

QBs and O-linemen need the redshirt year more than anyone. Other positions can hit the ground running better. Now, Hall being here for spring ball does change things a little bit, I grant you, but if Maddie is back next year, he should be considered the guy.

Apologies if I misunderstood your post, which I took to mean you hope Hall wins the job in 2017. I hope he makes it a hard decision, but I don't see any way that Maddie wouldn't be the obvious starter (assuming he comes back).

Yes, and Harnish was not the QB we know and talk about today until his junior season. His first two years looked like he was not going to become a record breaking QB.

He had a good game against Minnesota but Palmer made some big plays and Chad Spann was a beast. Then if I remember right, we still lost that game.

Chad Spann had 0 carries in that game lol. NIU Had 72 rushing yards on 31 carries.

Harnish went 17/29 for 326 yards and 2 TDs in that game.

The game NIU won in Minnesota two years later, Spann (and really everyone who carried the ball) had a huge game.

I remember Spann having a big game against Minnesota. So it was the 2nd time we played them. Either way, Harnish was average at best his first two years.

Yeah, Spann's game was in 2010. Hell, I could have had 80 yards rushing in that game the way the Gophers laid down and let us kick their ass that night.

Harnish was definitely a tale of talent before development. His throws against 2008 Minnesota consisted of slants to Nathan Palmer that went for big yardage, but I remember coming back from that game and saying to other Huskie fans "I think we've got a QB." Then, he got hurt early in the the game against WMU 1 week later and wasn't quite the same when he returned. The following year, he got the knee hurt on the cheap shot at Toledo and was not himself the rest of the way.

At that point, I remember thinking "I think I've seen enough of the Chandler Harnish show. He just is what he is and can't stay healthy." Then, there was the weird-ass saga of "is he hurt? Is he OK? Is Grady going to be the guy?" To this day, I've never gotten a straight answer on what was going on there that led to him perhaps done for his career and then being benched for Grady. I remember seeing him throw in Spring 2010 (or perhaps fall camp before the opener) and friends (who were hot for any QB besides Harnish (remember Brandon Rogers, AJ Hill, Billy Lowe, and Casey Weston? Don't fall in love with prospects) asking me what I thought. My response was, "You're not going to like it. It's Harnish... and not by a little."

Well, things worked out for the best. I just know I want that QB as a 22 year old and not a guy at 18, I don't care how fast he runs or how badly we think we might suck.

Doesn't look like he had any other offers. I'm not saying he is bad, but can't we get some kickers that have other schools after them? I would say that position most can see if a player has it or doesn't and it looks like he went to quite a bit of camps for bigger programs to see

He camped at Northwestern , Indiana , and University of Virginia. Kickers don't usually get tons of offers. Most walk on. I'll take a Big Ten kicker left over. Hard to find good kickers. Saw a lot of good programs with bad kickers last season.

Honest question I don't know the answer to...how many kickers get offers? Feel like everytime I see a kicker anywhere besides FSU, he's a walk on.

Are we looking at this guy as a kicker, punter or both? If I remember punter was more of a need.

With the updated 247 ratings I noticed NIU dropped from 5th to 6th in their MAC recruiting rankings. Not that I really care, just noticed it today.

He's showing no offers, thinking this one might be a preferred walk on

RE: 2017 Official Verbal Thread
Some predictions from me:
1. I think we lose Davyion Nixon to either Purdue or Iowa (visiting Purdue next weekend)
2. I think we lose Nate Weiland to Iowa (visiting Iowa this weekend, I believe)
3. I think Tyrice Richie is also up in the air, it wouldn't surprise me if we lost him either
