RE: Murphy's contract?
Please stay Raven. Murphy will win big next year. I've been waiting like twenty years to put Eastern winning the NCAA bracket. One more year I guess. Why you think EMU wont go to a tourney.

So what....half of them lost.

Ken,

My point is man to man gives you the best opportunity to win in most cases. Ifzone were the best opportunity to win, don't you think Izzo, Coach K, Shaqa Smart, Beilein, Calipari, and Pitino would run it exclusively? The answer is they all run a zone based on circumstances and they rarely deploy it.

Luckey:

Although I frquently disagree with you, I do respect your knowledge of hoops and issues regarding EMU.

RE: playing zone vs. man to man.

Murphy has recruited a very long team DESIGNED for the zone. He did not recruit a team to play man to man.

Izzo, etc. did NOT recruit for a zone.

Hence you play a system for which you recruited your players.

It should be obvious that JT4, Nobles, Bond, LWH, Steele (new recruit) are all very long and should fit a zone defense.

Bring in a man to man coach and some of these players are square pegs in round holes.

Not saying Murphy should make man to man a frequently used defense, just have it available for those special times, like when the other team is beating the snot out of the zone.

Agreed. It's not about changing the system but I think there is something to be said to being able to adapt for what another team is giving you.
