RE: Is 14 to many?
Just for the sake of argument... I like 10 for basketball and 9 for football. Gives you 8 football games (everybody plays everybody) and 18 basketball games (everybody plays home and home with everybody else).

I have also thought about what the 16 team thing would look like (just for fun, I don't think you would want to actually divide the revenue that much). Invite say Missouri State and one other good basketball program to the west. (Wichita State would be the dream if they wanted football). I would have two divisions of 8. Play 14 divisional games and then the top two from each division would play home and home with the top two from the other division, the next two would play home and home with the next two, and so on down to the bottom two which would play home and home with the bottom two from the other division. That would give everybody 18 conference games and the top teams would get resume builders.

I recall reading arkstfan writing that they threw Idado and NMSU out because Benson claimed each conference only got $10m not $12m. If you believe that and you want $1m per school, you would need to kick out 4. Kick out any two from Texas plus any two from Florida and we got the perfect conference. 02-13-banana

C-USA should not have expanded past 12 teams. I didn't like expanding to 14 when it happened.

Really? Which two Texas programs? Rice? C-USA would lose the Houston market (#10 in the country), plus Rice has made 2 bowl games in the past 3 seasons. North Texas? C-USA would lose the Dallas market(#6 in the country), plus UNT's been to a bowl game in the last 3 seasons. UTSA? The only game in a sports crazy city, that draws very good attendance. UTEP? Historically strong basketball program. C-USA would never give a couple of Texas programs the boot.

Now there will be a discussion to be had if we lose 2.

Why would you add 2 and who would you go for? SBC would be the only pond to fish from as I doubt the MWC or MAC or AAC would be legit fodder for searching.

10 not great for football.

And I don't like hybrid conferences.

9 isn't as good as 10 for basketball, but football is more important. So 9 or 12 is the way to go.

Dr. Sheldon Cooper said 73 is the best number, however I think that would be a little difficult to pull off from a scheduling standpoint.

I would rather have 16 than 14. I think 14 is one of the silliest things we have done.

14 is bad, but I don't think 16 would be better.

RE: Is 14 to many?
Since we can't drop down I would prefer to go up to 16. We can split into eight team divisions. For football it would drastically reduce cross over games. I would suggest NMSU and UMass.

West
UTEP
NMSU
UTSA
N Texas
RICE
La Tech
USM
UAB

East
FAU
FIU
ODU
Charlotte
WK
MT
Marshall
UMass.

If UMass doesn't want to join I would probably go for Georgia St.

In a couple of years we could officially split from each other if things don't work out. While NMSU might not be an attractive candidate it is a perfect traveling partner for us. 2 for 1 deal during basketball season. It would be tough to come away from the El Paso/Las Cruces region with a victory and a sweep almost impossible.

Whatever the mix....just win. The conference in Baseball right now is 4th in RPI in the country. Do that in all sports and we are relevant everywhere. It's all about beating everyone OOC.

RE: Is 14 to many?
14 is great if they are all performing and put a lot of people in the stands. If 5,000 actual people are at the football game and they are losers on the field then that is a major problem. 9 is the perfect number unless #10-14 bring ALOT to the table.
