A school like Ga Southern has a much higher ceiling as it is located in a perfect location for recruiting. 3 hours from Atlanta, 2 hours from Jacksonville and 4 hours from central FL. Kids want to get away from home, but not too far away so the distances above are a perfect balance for most.

Regardless, I don't see anymore movement from the SBC to CUSA. What is more likely to happen is the SBC begins to finish ahead of CUSA in the playoff rankings and football schools such as Marshall and Southern Miss push for a regional reshuffle. The NMSU AD was quoted as saying those talks are going on behind the scenes right now.

The SBC and CUSA both have a solid top 4 or 5 football programs. The difference is now that NMSU and Idaho are gone, CUSA has a lot more dead weight that has no real solution. The SBC is now very lean which will potentially disrupt the current landscape between CUSA and the SBC.

Idaho and NMSU both finished above ULM and Texas St last season. Is the SBC going to purge itself into the top ranking of the G5? A conference of only App St, Ga So, ASU would finish pretty high!

^^ This.

If you remove Idaho and NMSU in the 2015 calculation, the SBC finishes ahead of CUSA in the 2015 conference payout.

As the SBC begins to consistently finish ahead of CUSA, strong football programs such as Marshall, Southern Miss, La Tech will become frustrated being drug down by so many poor performers with poor performance and attendance. They will then begin a push to join like minded programs with a tradition of performance and fan support. This conference can also challenge for he AAC for the top conference in terms of performance on the field which will further incentivize the move. The solid performers will crunch the numbers which will show had these 10 SBC/CUSA schools been in a conference, they would have finished #1 in a he payout.

The large media market model was a massive failure which will result in the reshuffling discussed above. The he NMSU ad was quoted yesterday as saying discussions are occurring behind the scenes.

You have NMSU and Idaho for 2 more seasons and then add fcs CC. C-USA new schools will continue to grow and get stronger in the meantime. I see no scenario for the SBC to be in front of C-USA. C-USA finished ahead of the SBC in 2015 with one of the conferences worst performances overall. The year before, C-USA finished 2nd out of the 5 conferences. I look for our conference to finish in the top 2 or 3 regularly now that new schools are gaining traction.

Good post. I see ODU and Charlotte being more competitive in the future than ULM and other Sunbelts. Charlotte only victory last year was against a Sunbelt Bowl team Ga State.

Hopefully North Texas and UTSA will their new coaching hires will right the ship and be competitive once again.

Speaking of the Sunbelt, big news just dropped about ULL. Don't have the time to post the link but I'm sure the thread is moments away

No thanks on Arkansas State.

I was joking

ASU is getting a new 50 million hotel and convention center being built on campus. That with their new facility upgrades like the indoor practice facility are damn impressive.

Don't misunderstand me, I'm 100% against an expensive lateral move to CUSA, but come on. Any other team moving conferences over Arkansas State? We have won 4/5 SBC championships, 5 straight winning seasons, best attendance in the SBC, highest ESPN viewership by a large margin, and we're currently dumping tens of millions of dollars into athletic facilities (new press box, indoor practice facility, and football operations facility that includes more suite seating). On the academic side, we have a growing student population along with Jonesboro being one of the fastest growing small cities in the nation, $50 million hotel/convention center being built, along with 2 new upperclassmen dorms. Not to mention ASU is the home of the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, a new medical school is being built on campus, a brand new $40 million humanities building was just finished, and we're building the first American style campus in Mexico. We have some very good conference mates but to say that Arkansas State wouldn't be the first picked from the SBC is foolish.

You're foolish thinking you understand expansion. Look at the last round of movement from CUSA to the AAC and from the SBC to CUSA.

Again no thanks on the WWE Howl Yeahs...

The NCAA investigation?

22 wins including the two bowl games. Could have been worse (schollys, future postseason)

They already self imposed scholarship reductions. Here were the self imposed sanctions that were accepted

terminating Saunders;
a two-year probation period;
reducing initial football grants-in-aid (scholarships) by three in 2016-17 and three more in 2017-18;
reducing total grants-in-aid by five in 2015-16, by three in 2016-17 and by three in 2017-18;
reducing off-campus recruiting by 40 days in 2015-16 and ’16-17;
reducing official visits by recruits to 44 in 2014-15 and 38 in 2015-16; and

I still can't believe Saunders is employed at the moment. I love this awesome quote from when he was hired as Pearl River JC head coach, three months after the ULL allegations surfaced.

“We were looking for a person who truly cared about the lives of young people, and who possessed a commitment to the moral, physical and spiritual development of their athletes. We believe we found that in Coach David Saunders.” 03-lmfao

Well, we finally agree on something. If nothing else, we know behind a shadow of doubt that this Saunders guy should not be allowed to be within 100 ft of an NCAA program.

Plesse reread my post. Then get back to me.

I think we all know that MTSU and WKU are not the problem. I'll call them out if it hurts your feelings that I said most former Sun Belt (NT, FAU, FIU) and FCS schools (UTSA and Charlotte) and you thought I meant WKU. It's safe to say that without these schools our basketball and football wouldn't be viewed as being so ******. Oh they are in destination cities, who gives a ****, they suck. Oh they bring great softball, swimming and diving programs, give me a break. There is no reason that schools with all the advantages they have with location should suck as bad as they do. We are in WV, many of you talk down about WV, it's a joke nationally yet the smallest public FBS school in the land continues to win. I don't get it really.

Marshall losing all their OOC games then beating everyone in conference is why our basketball is being viewed so ******. Look in the mirror dude 07-coffee3

Says the fan of a middle of the pack CUSA team who only won two more OOC games than Marshall and can't beat half of the teams in CUSA.07-coffee3

Middle of the pack???!! MU42 said all of the newbies were bottom feeders right?

My point was Marshall played a part in the conference "perception" that he is whining about.

Ok. You either can't read or can't comprehend or both. I clearly stated who the problem was. They are in these great big cities where no one there cares about them, and they lose and lose and lose at everything. They need to start winning.

Oh my, I just realized I sound like Trump.

That's a decent conference given the other options. Add your choice of the Alabama schools and probably ULL and it'd be interesting.

Considering that your president and AD were involved in inviting all the big city schools, maybe, just maybe you should be berating them instead of the invited schools.
