No argument here. Unless you win, it's pro football or bust in Houston as it is in DFW to an extent.

AAC Announces 2018 Tourn Site Location
Doesn't really matter as SMU won't be bidding on the tournament

Hmmm, wonder why!?!... They probably think they're off to the big12.

No,after this BB season it has become obvious to both that they have to park their Oly sports in the Sunbelt in order to have a chance to win something.

.

So UConn is 2 years removed from a NCAA Championship in Basketball...tell me what exactly what has Temple accomplished in post season play the last few years....????

Back to that again? What has your 2 year old Natty done to make you so great in this pitiful (according to UCONN fans) conference. Right now you are not good enough. Right now. Comprende?

Instead of it going back to Orlando again and the Amway Center, I would like to see it go to Tampa to mix it up and get both cities a bit more involved and interested in the conference.

The Amalie Arena in Tampa is very similar in size and setup to the Amway Center. Amalie already hosts numerous NCAA championships (Frozen Four). If Amway and Amalie are too big, why not move them to the Sundome or CFE? Those are also pretty great facilities that are more size appropriate.

USF has even weaker attendance than UCF...and their NHL Arena is not owned by the City so I don't think we will ever see the Amalie Arena take on a loss-leader event like the AAC Tourn.

I personally wouldn't buy a TimeShare for March 2018 Week of AAC Tourn in Orlando...as without SMU this year...Memphis (probably 2nd biggest traveling and/or alumni in FLA) having a terrible year...attendance for this year's tournament will be brutal...and I wouldn't be shocked if the 2018 Tourn ends up elsewhere (like Year 1 of UC's newly renovated arena...at a school with a much larger fan base...and one that will only grow with Year 1 of their "new" building).

RE: AAC Announces 2018 Tourn Site Location UPDATE: Will AAC take it away now?
AAC Tourn is now a laughing stock on national sports talk radio and social media because of poor tournament attendance.

With "dozens" of fans in attendance for the Quarterfinals on Friday Night and for the 2nd Semi-final game on Saturday, both of those games on ESPN2 became a laugh track to others wanting to rip on the conf.

Regardless if the City of Orlando/Central Florida Sports Org that "bought" the 2016 and 2018 tournaments...should the AAC "buyout/cancel" the 2018 and place it in say Cincinnati, that will be reopening their on-campus arena after an almost $90 Million re-do?

Makes no sense to have the tourney in Orlando. Only 2 (usually pretty bad) teams are within driving distance

What shows are these? Sounds bad but at least people are talking about the AAC tournament. I'd be more concerned if there was indifference.

Fox Sports Radio and CBS Sports Radio. Even one ESPN Radio host made a snide comment about AAC Tourn attendance when he mentioned "all the leg room" that is available for those that show up.

The AAC needs to get away from Orlando ASAP. This tournament show-out has been embarrassing. Move it back to Connecticut or up to Cincinnati.

Who thought giving it to UCF was a smart idea anyway?

Philly, Hartford, Raleigh, etc would all be better.

The tournament was won by a bid by the City of Orlando and the Central Florida Sports Commission...who used public $$ to secure the rights and guarantee revenue to the AAC.

This was not a UCF bid project.

UCF (and USF) were just fortunate to not need conf funds to fly to the tournament location site.

Considering Orlando and UCONN were the only bidders where else should it go?

Even Dallas at Moody.

I would have loved to have seen some games in Philly.

It's been a good conference tourney this year. The crowd has been the least of my focus. It's just something the conference needs to decide on as we grow.

That's the challenge as odds are, this tourn is a loss-leader....hence why its public entities that were the only ones bidding on it (they don't need to make a profit).

Univ owned "right size" (at least for the tourn) say at SMU or UCF or USF, etc...odds are, they would lose $$$ at the end of a tourn...so they can't bid on it.

RE: AAC Announces 2018 Tourn Site Location UPDATE: Will AAC take it away now?
Lets cut to the chase. The problem is our conference is too spread out. Let's compare;

UConn vs. Memphis in Orlando. Memphis is about 700 miles away and Storrs is nearly 1,200 miles away.

Seton Hall vs. Villanova in Manhattan. SHU is literally 30 minutes across the Hudson and Nova is a short train ride away.

Kansas vs. West Virginia. KU is literally right down the road and Kansas City is their biggest alumni base. West Virginia had a handful of fans in the arena; likely far fewer than UConn has in Orlando.

Michigan State vs. Purdue. Purdue is an hour away and Indianapolis is loaded with Purdue fans. Michigan State is just 3-4 hours away. Easy drives for both fan bases.

Utah vs. Oregon. Salt Lake to Vegas is just over 5 hours but the state line of Utah is just an hour away. Oregon is quite a bit further and hence why the Ducks were so outnumbered.

Announcers yesterday said that UCONN had the most fans at the tournament this year.
