AAC Announces 2018 Tourn Site Location UPDATE: Will AAC take it away now? - KnightLight - 03-04-2016 09:36 AM

While it was easily leaked about a week ago that Hartford would host the 2017 AAC Basketball Tourn, AAC finally made that official yesterday...along with naming Orlando Magic's Amway Center the location for the 2018 Tournament as well.

This only having it on the east coast thing is getting really f'ing annoying. I can't wait for our big 12 invite to come in. Hahahaha

Is Memphis not bidding on this? I think they would be a good tourney destination.

They were going to have it either Cincinnati or Hartford but for some reason Cincy and UConn withdrew their names form consideration...

Hmmm, wonder why!?!... They probably think they're off to the big12.

No,after this BB season it has become obvious to both that they have to park their Oly sports in the Sunbelt in order to have a chance to win something.

Same reason UC and UConn withdrew their names.

I would like the conference to pick a permanent home for the tournament and just leave it there, preferably an areas that seats less than 10,000. The Amyway Center has something like 18,000 seats, it’s going to look and sound horrible on TV for most of the games.

10,000 works well because even with 5,000 at the early games there is some energy and noise.

No better place than the Palestra.

It was going to be my suggestion, 8,000 seats, sounds and looks full even when it’s half empty, located in a city with a major airport, lots of hotel and entertainment options, lots of history in the arena and ESPN can play up the whole birthplace of America angle but I didn’t want to get blasted saying it was my homerism.

The one downside is it’s not a very comfortable place to watch a long day of basketball.

I have suggested the Palestra ever since the AAC formed to be a conf.

I hope the tourn lands there some day...but I also think UC's new/renovated on-campus arena will be a "perfect" home for the tourn (approx 11,500 seat arena, LARGE home fan base) too.

UC's Fifth Third Bank Arena renovated by Fall 2018

Memphis, Hartford, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, and Orlando should be the rotation.

Palaestra in Philly would be fine.

Believe it or not I could really see Raleigh doing well hosting the tournament. With the ACC moving on to the North, the local community and media (WRAL) would back the tournament. When the CIAA use to play on in Raleigh they had huge support. If Greenville had a nice 10,000 person arena we would really support it well. Small cities get behind events like that more big cities who are used to having events.

Outside of the Mavs, DFW is an awful basketball market.
