These new Trump poll numbers should absolutely terrify Republicans
Quote:The new CNN national poll casts further doubt on the likelihood of this working. It finds that Trump has expanded his lead among registered Republican and GOP-leaning independent voters nationally: He has 49 percent; Rubio has 16 percent; Cruz has 15 percent; Ben Carson has 10 percent; and John Kasich has nine percent. Two of the four days of polling were taken after last week’s GOP debate, which was supposed to be a dramatic game-changer for Rubio.

What's interesting about that poll is that other polls released in the last couple days for individual states don't show Trump anywhere near 49% in those states. In fact, he rarely breaks 40%. Although I'm sure Trump's numbers are high, this poll definitely looks like an outlier.

Yep. Could sort of "feel" this coming. When they (Rubio/Cruz) went far afield and off the rails talking about orange hair, little hands, going all Harry Reid on the tax thing and whatever else.
They got off message and it started to look desperate and rather childish. That's Trumps territory afterall.
That old saying about wrestling a pig comes to mind...

Trump isn't going to be the President his voters want him to be....but he's not going to be the President the people who have screwed them over want him to be either.
Everybody going to be unhappy in the end...but they will at least have gotten to choose their own hell for a change.

The GOP establishment screaming that Trump must be stopped.
They could have done that at any time over the last 20 years.
If they had not taken their base for granted all that time then it wouldn't have exploded.
Hard to stop an explosion after the shrapnel is already flying.

Out of curiosity, where do you stand on the political situation as it stands today in the U.S.? If you think about it, one could actually make a reasonable argument that American Revolution and the resulting outcomes are an aberration in human history that is in the final death pangs, and that in the near future we will be back to a more traditional mode of human interaction based upon our inherited animal instincts, i.e. the idea of a hierarchy within a pack. I believe that despotism, monarchies and feudal systems are all extensions of the pack mentality for civilizations.
Are you of like mind or do you have more hope for the future than that? If I had to guess, I'd believe that you are a fatalist and believe so based upon the limitations of our biology.

GOP had a more electable candidate with Cruz but the Establishment wanted their version of more electable, Jeb Bush. When Jeb stepped out, the Establishment should have forced everyone out and backed Cruz. He had the organization capable of beating Trump, but not Trump, Rubio and Kasich.
RE: These new Trump poll numbers should absolutely terrify Republicans
Name one time in the last 20 years that Republicans could have done anything that ya'll wanted without compromising with the Democrats? Heck, name one time in the last 50 years.

Reagan got his tax reform, and military budget with a democrat house and senate. The bigger question for Democrats who had a super-majority in the Senate and could have implemented their entire agenda, why didn't they? Immigration reform, tax reform, gun control, carbon tax could all have been done with NO way for the GOP to stop them. My guess is IF all these terrible policies had been implemented the GOP would have a super-majority in the senate and be heading for a 50 state landslide in the presidential election this year, plus if all that had been completed they wouldn't be able to call the GOP obstructionists.
