Duplantier and Otto will be drafted. But lower than the top prospects on literally every team in this tournament.

TCU is really impressive.
Arkansas is a solid team. But TCU at this point looks elite. Capable of winning it all.
We will get better. I just don't know how much better.

Which is fine. Except that should apply to us to, given our history.

It's a dark day when one of the good guys rides off into the sunset and another black-hatted sports factory steps into his boots.

8-0 in the B3 and Rice is hitless through 3.

lol of course not! Everyone knows in football it's the coaches fault and in baseball it's the players' fault!

A coach builds a program. A sports department maintains one.

How many years now has the scoreboard at Reckling been busted?

Symbol of how the program is languishing?

Doesn't show well that we've let something like that linger.

We all know when the Owls became an elite program they stayed at that level a long time. They used to always have a handful of what I considered dominant players - some of whom came to Rice under the radar. I'm just not seeing that anymore.

Well, we're finally playing a good team. That Arizona team that we blew a pair to isn't going to do anything in the Pac 12 this year, trust me.

This is getting really embarrassing. Does anyone get the feeling that TCU has all of the badass, intimidating players that we used to have?

Exactly...a team of Townsends

Haven't seen that since Rendon graduated.

There is a big difference between Graham and Bailiff: the former brought us a national championship. For that we are forever indebted to him.

Yes... There is definitely a difference in the accomplishments of the coaches. But let's not act like if the quality of play right now is any better than what we put on the football field. Btw that championship was 13 years ago. What have we done in the last 8 years.

While your point overall has merit, lets not pretend that Rice Football is capable of even coming close to competing with anyone in the top 25, let alone top 50. Not at all.

9-0 TCU going to B5.

In looking for positives, 0 errors. All 9 frog runs are earned.

Yeah, I know it's not much, but...

Basically now that P5 programs have the extra $$$ to throw at baseball we can't hope to compete anymore, right?

The $$ makes it so hard. Unlike football, we could probably bridge the gap enough with the right emphasis and resources, but I haven't seen that since CDC left.

If this was happening in football, we would be saying that the coach needed to replace his assistants. I know some people aren't enchanted with the Rice assistant coaches right now, but we hear that Coach Graham thinks they are the best he has had. I think we all find it easier to trust Graham, given his past accomplishments, then Bailiff. I am not saying anything either way and I know nothing about the current assistants. It is a tough conundrum and given the resources other programs are now throwing at baseball, climbing the ladder now back into elite status will be much tougher now than it was 20 years ago.

RE: Owls v Frogs baseball official game thread
I stayed for 2 1/2 innings. I just couldn't stomach any more. It was especially frustrating having to listen to the nearby TCU fans laughing at our poor play. Boy how times have changed. Of the 6 teams playing in this year's tourney, it kills me to say I think we may be the weakest team.

I also attended last night's Arkansas game. I think Rice has had the lowest fan turnout of all the teams. I may be wrong about Texas Tech. I haven't seen them play yet - not sure if they brought more fans than us or not.

I still think we are a top 50 team, with the potential to be competitive in CUSA play. That's a big dropoff from what we are used to as Rice baseball fans. I'm afraid I agree with all those people who say we are getting weaker and weaker every year. The only difference is that I still attend most of the games - at least for now. I can see where many of the disgruntled no longer show up.

But the resources are tied to conference affiliation, and it is a deep hole to climb out of at this point
