Taking a jab at UAB? Honestly if a team is better than the other team they will win regardless of where it's played or who is the referee. In 2010 UTEP beat Tulsa for a third time in the same season when they knocked out the host in the semifinals of the CUSA tournament. In 2011 Memphis avenged an earlier 20 point defeat at the Don Haskins by beating UTEP in the CUSA championship game. In 2013 Memphis beat Tulsa in the semifinals during the CUSA tournament in Tulsa. In 2014 Southern Miss swept UTEP and beat them in El Paso during the quarterfinals of the CUSA tournament. All in all recent history shows a home team can be beat at their place during the CUSA tournament.

Going have to win the CUsAB tourney. Tough to beat a home crowd and refs as evidenced last year.
What exactly is questionable about this? Just curious.

You are right about Winn. Also, Vint, with his length coming off the bench can throw a monkey wrench at the opposition at key times during a game.
I think we'll get by ODU who has a hard time scoring more than 70 points while we can make it into the 80s or 90s on the road. Also, ODU seems beatable at home having lost 4 of their last 6 at their house.
I'm interested to hear what our ODU comrades think about these statements.
Good luck ODU and may the shortest, fastest team win.
You're right about our lack of scoring being an issue. On the other hand, you probably won't score quite as much as you normally do so if you normally get into the 80's or 90's then you will probably be closer to the 60-70 mark yourself (we'll see).
It's true that we have lost several at home in conference games, but all but the Rice game were down to the wire. Lost to UAB by 1 on a hey-look-what-I-found rebound that fell into their 5'-10" Point Guard's hands for a quick follow shot winner. We lost to Marshall by 3 on what looked to be about a 30 footer by Kelly with 4 seconds left in the game.
If it is a win by either team by more than around 7 points then UTEP is the likely winner. I watched your game this past Saturday against LA Tech. Your guys looked much better than when I had seen them play earlier in the year.

Looks like the WKU guard was making a play towards the goal during the 4 and 5 second count and had his head and shoulders past the defender therefore negating the 5 second count imo. This years rule states that a five-second closely guarded violation may be called against an offensive player with the ball when that player is guarded closely for five seconds or more and does not pass, shoot, or dribble within that time.
Last years rules state that you could call a 5 second count on a closely guarded player while they were dribbling but the count is supposed to end whenever the player with the ball gets his head and shoulders past the defender, the defender is no longer within the required distance, the same defender does not continuously closely guard the player in control of the ball, or another opponent is between the defender and the ball.
That's my guess but I'm not a ref or basketball guru by no means. That particular call did look like a bad one but no ref is perfect and there are always bad calls throughout a game.

Your tears are delicious.
LOL. Just some good nature ribbing. Should be a great tournament. A lot of teams could make some noise. I'm hoping Tech can hold on to that 4 seed or possibly move up to the 3rd or 2nd. Our last two games at Marshall and WKU is going to be tough. I'm pretty satisfied with were Tech is at right now considering that we lost 2 starters in White and Davis due to injuries before conference play started.

I am a referee..high school... But the college rule is the same.. Once legal guarding position is established (between the dribbler and the goal and within 6 feet.. Which is the distance from the foul line to the top of the key as judged by the front feet of the dribbler and the defender) the dribbler has 5 seconds to shoot, pass, or pick up the dribble.. In my judgment from the video, the dribbler never broke the six foot boundary and still remained in legal guarding position.. And.. It doesn't have to be just one player... If player A1 passes offensive player b1 off to A2 an a2 is within 6 feet and establishes legal guarding position. The count continues...(at least in NFHS)
I think the question is: Did the player break the boundary so that the defender was not longer in legal guarding position? I think if he would have continued toward the baseline, I think that the count would have been terminated... But when he checked up, it never appeared that he completely broke the 6 foot boundary. IMHO
Edit: I got my info from the NCAA rule book on page 78... Feel free to tell me if I missed something... Not being an ass.. If I missed something... Please let me know

Got one right but missed the other. Expected UTEP to score about 10 more than they did and us to score closer to 65 - 70. That's why they play the games. UTEP is very skilled at the half court drive game. Feel good about getting this win on our side.
Means not much at this point... Miners will have to find a new streak come tourney time... On any given night, they can beat anyone in the league... same can be said for many other CUSA teams... UAB has the upper hand, but don't be shocked to see them knocked early.
