Baseball: Week of 2/22-2/28
Here are the midweek games:
Tuesday:
ODU vs. Norfolk St
USM vs. ULM
LT vs. UA-LR
UTSA @ Sam Houston St.
MTSU vs. Lipscomb
Rice vs. Dallas Baptist
UAB vs. Jacksonville St.
FIU vs. St. Thomas (Non-D1)
Wednesday:
USM vs. New Orleans
LT vs. ULL
Rice vs. Texas State
UAB @ Troy
FIU vs. Mizzou
Key games in my view are Rice vs. Dallas Baptist and LA Tech vs. ULL. If LT can get the win vs. ULL, it'd really show that they are on the way up.
I'd also like to see UAB win against Jacksonville St. and Troy. Was this past weekend just a blip on the radar or a sign of things to come? Same question can be asked about Rice.

And? ULL is one of the top programs in the nation right now.. SHSU has definitely fallen off a bit though since they lost Pierce to Tulane.

Louisiana is playing in the Houston Astros College Classic this weekend and plays Rice on Sunday. Looking forward to the game and tournament.
UL is also building a new baseball stadium as soon as this season ends. Here are some renderings of the new stadium.

Some newer renderings that have just recently been placed outside the Tigue.

the outside kind of reminds me of the where the redbirds play

Is construction expected to be finished in 7 or 8 months? Kind of like the A&M football stadium project?

It is supposed to be ready for next season. I guess we'll see if they can stay on schedule.

They've already started: this winter they took out the (horrific) old lighting, and installed the new ones. They will be starting up again immediately after the last game.
Hosting regional/SR would impact that some, but I would imagine that there will be stiff penalties for not finishing on time. We had the same situation a couple of years ago with the addition of the FB SEZ seating, restrooms/concessions project. It was down to the wire but they got it done.
Also what will be going up around the same time is a new 'Champion's Plaza' that is going up in between our APC and the Tigue.....where the old FB weight room/locker room building (the 'Cox' building) is located. They are in the process of relocating the last remaining Admin staff from the Cox bldng before getting starting on that.
Is it all private donations or could this be affected by state budget crisis?
100% private donations. We are in the second phase of our master plan for improvements to our athletic facilities. Along with the Tigue, this phase also includes the major portion of the improvements to Cajun field.

Also, and independent from the master plan is the $20 million in approvements to the our BB arena, the Cajundome which is going to start right after this season. This part is being done with govt funds, but will not be affected by current financial issues.

Didn't ULL just finish a new locker room complex for football? Lots of $$$ being spent in a state that is facing major academic cuts for budget reasons...
Yes I know it's probably private donations but it still sends a terrible message and probably makes enemies on the academic side of campus (like when LSU boosters wanted to spend 20+ million to buy out Miles and another 30+ million in guarantees on a new coach).

Yes, the APC is a new 100K sq ft facility (connected to our IPF; both just outside Cajun Field) that holds a huge weight room used by all student athletes, plus a big theater/meeting room, the FB staff offices, and also a bunch of position meeting rooms. Take the time to look at the video. You'll be impressed.

This was all done with private money, and well before the current financial mess. Besides which, the old facilities were over 35 years and in such bad condition that there has been much celebration from everyone, without much resistance .... if any.

Our game against ULM will probably be postponed or cancelled. Bad weather expected tomorrow in Hattiesburg.

That is really neat to see in Lafayette. Makes MT look small! Our current setup is really nice, tho.

I don't think so. These facilities still needed the UL System approval which we got a couple of years ago. Construction is just being completed now. We also have a new T&F complex (still under construction), a new softball stadium from a couple of years ago, we already have an Indoor Practice Facility, we completed Phase I of football stadium improvements increasing seating to over 40,000 (Phase II to increase seating to 50,000 with a new press box, suites, offices, merchandise store, and trophy room), and a renovation of the basketball facility for better seating. All of that will be completed by next year, except Phase II of the football stadium which will be a couple of years away I'll post some pictures of what we have done and are doing, although they will likely be in separate emails.

Wow. And I do mean wow. That is very nice.
I wanted to say earlier that all of the $17 million in work on the Tigue will be for the fans....no new lockers, offices etc for the team. Coach Robe says the fans are the ones who have stuck by them thru the years, so they are the ones who should be rewarded. This go-round is 100% dedicated to the fan experience.
Should be some very good ball this weekend, starting with TCU Friday.
