Conference USA basketball tournament
Terrible idea by the conference: seeds for the tournament are already set. UAB is not guaranteed the prime time slot for games. Bet teams won't be as willing to put in a bid for the tournament.

That's stupid. That's going to really hurt attendance for our opening game(s), I believe. The benefit of a couple of extra hours of rest doesn't outweigh the benefit of more fans in the seats, IMO.

This thread has been started anew every week.

Its possible Haase likes this because it gives his team more rest between the semis and finals.

Possible that Haase likes it. His confirmation tonight is the first official word we've gotten on the topic.

I probably missed it, but I'd only seen it as speculation on this board before tonight. I got confirmation from Coach Haase that the seeding is set.

He said there was some discussion at the conference meeting this year about the top seed from last year having the least amount of rest. I guess La Tech whined enough to get it changed. Since we're the host team, he prefers the prime time game, to make it more convenient for our fans.

I can probably make the 3pm game on Friday, fortunately. However, the attendance will definitely suffer. I'd think haase would want the best home court advantage possible based on all his efforts this year in the attendance department...

I and give up the auto bid to the NIT? No thank you.

Blazer fans just have to show up. Or Blazer players just have to win in front of an empty house.

Things like this happen when you promote your leadership from within without conducting a national search to find the best person to lead the conference.

BB was bad, the new regime may be worse. And that's saying something.

Do we know if the time slot decision can be changed? Is our athletic department even trying to persuade the conference office?

Coach Haase said this was discussed & decided at the conference meetings. Sounded pretty set in stone. If anything, the #1 seed should be able to pick their time slot. That way, in case the #1 team is hosting, they don't get screwed.

Conference USA basketball tournament
Doubtful I can go if we get the early game on Thursday. Maybe can make it there in time Friday for the early game but even that is questionable. Not sure why folks care about the host getting the prime time slot. Folks are going to be complaining about our home court advantage regardless of what time we play.

This will cause attendance numbers to be down at this years tournament and will give UAB and CUSA a black eye- which neither needs.

I'll take two half-days from work... it's worth it to cheer on my Blazers.

We may lose out on the casual fan, but if we play a 12:00 tip, we'll land a bunch of folks who work downtown and will take a long lunch. The Barons get really good weekday crowds for their games; it shouldn't be any different for UAB at 12:00 if marketed the right way.

I'm not so sure about that. Thursday likely would suffer, but I would hope that a 330 game on Friday isn't a disaster. I am taking the whole day off as is, so the timing doesn't really matter to me there.
