Not at all. It's an unsecured loan with a high default rate. The economics require a higher interest rate.

Student loans receive special protection in bankruptcy and are practically non dischargeable. The poor banks you feel sorry for can chase and collect from the students their entire life. The reason why the rates are so high is because Wall Street owns the politicians, not the people.

Look, all sides have their less than articulate supporters. If you think every Trump supporter is a Rhodes scholar you should have joined me when I door knocked in Iowa. I ran into plenty of them. Many of those people struggled to form complete sentences. Some told me they were between Trump and Bernie because both were against "the government." I kid you not. I heard all manner of ridiculous crap from right wingers.
The video was lame anyway. Someone called Bernie a "congressman" and Watters said he was a senator. Okay, it's true that generally only House members are referred to as "congressman", but both are still members of Congress, so it's not even factually inaccurate. That was one of his best zingers? And who knows how many people he talked to. And how many kids had good arguments after a couple of seconds before he cut them off.
They're in COLLEGE and can't answer the simple stuff and want free education. They're idiots. They shouldn't be in college.
And it's NOT free. Your mom buys you lunch... it wasn't free.
Mind numbing how the left goes on about FREE.

No It's not. It's called unsecured debt and in order for college loans to exist it has to be done this way.
About 1% of auto loans are defaulted on (When there is a default the lender can reposes the car which has lost some value)
About 4% of mortgages are defaulted on (When there is a default the lender can reposes the home which has probably went up or held it's value)
About 10% of Student loans are defaulted on (Where there is a default you can not reposes anything)

This is an expensive process. It's not free to collect on loans.
If it were as easy and cheap to collect as you say than the government would not have contracts with private companies to act as loan guarantors. Every State has a company who is charged with being the guarantor.
The only reason those businesses exist is to go after defaulted loans.

You borrow money, you're supposed to pay it back. You don't pay it back, you should have to face the consequences. Nobody is getting screwed, least of all the borrowers. My heart truly bleeds for them. Not.

College will be free as soon as the liberal professors agree to cut their salaries for the betterment of society.

+1
The fact they are non-dischargeable essentially blows the unsecured argument out of the water.

It does not. Collecting on a debt is a very expensive process...

It's not really an argument. He just asked why they're voting for them.....and naturally he received sheepish, retarded answers from these losers.
This - he just asks them pretty simple questions that you would hope (I know, I know) someone that is going to vote would have at least a clue of........................and we wonder why we get the government we deserve.
I'll bet they all know what the Kardashians are up to.
And of course - here, we have Max defending the ignorant.
You're an idiot if you don't think this could be easily done to an NRA meeting or some other place with full grown dumb rednecks. I could ask what the unemployment rate is and get blank stares. I could ask them to define socialism and communism. Ask where Obama was born. It's too ******* easy. This guy here was literally picking on college freshmen (and probably heavily edited the video). He's a creep and a douche.
Disagree with a liberal, and the personal attacks come flying. How tolerant and loving.
Yep. Max is one of the least tolerant that come here. A very angry liberal - no tolerance at all for those less educated then he is......... Total dislike for all those he deems as "rednecks".
Of course, he is right about being able to quiz the uneducated about politics and them giving ignorant answers. That's the biggest problem we have politically in this country - probably beyond 60% of the voting public don't really have a clue what they vote for.

It's funny how we're the idiots but those oregon students who can't answer simple questions aren't.
The democratic campaign chair couldn't answer a question from a liberal newsperson when asked what the difference between a socialist and a democrat was? So if she's the head of this thing and doesn't know how can we expect those poor students to be able to explain it. Tsk, poor, poor libs.
And they want me who is retired to give them more of my money. HA!

Actually, this is no big deal; it's just entertainment oriented to the audience.
Jay Leno used to do this same sthick regularly on his show, with the same results. Should we conclude that every resident of Hollywood is a dolt like the Leno interviews would lead us to believe? Well, maybe that isn't a fair question.

And that they wont have "serious liberal commentators on their shows to argue with them" is a flat out whopper of a lie. Gigantic lie. Enormous lie. Monumental...
Damn near every single segment offers both sides.

Howard Stern started it long ago in NY. He would just send a guy outside the station and ask questions. It was always entertaining(and sad) to see how little people know. I remember him asking people "What causes tides in the ocean.?" Very few people had a clue.
