I have few words, I knew Dave personally since the mid 80's. Lots of fun memories. But, I can't talk about that right now. If you are ever down, talk, someone will listen and help, you always have friends even when you think you don't. Dave, I hope you found the peace you couldn't find here. I'm praying for his wife and two daughters and ask you do the same. And if any of your friends seem down, talk to them, they may need your help more than you realize.

Sad rip

Great guy. Many of times skated together (him on the bike) in the skatepark in Greenville. Just a cool, easy going guy. Just had beers with him downtown a few months back.

So sad to hear...and as stated no one should be alone in their thoughts with depression and suicidal thoughts. Reach out and talk, ask for help. Everyone means something to someone. Life is too precious.

So sad, I was such a big fan of his growing up. Still in a bit of shock.

Have to wonder how much a part that CTE played in this...

Terribly sad news!

I saw Mirra at the Temple-ECU game this fall. He was there as an honorary captain iirc.

Always a nice guy when I ran into him at 519 back in the day. RIP

Making this up or have actually heard he had it? I don't recall hearing he had any concussions, no that I wouldn't believe it because of all those tricks he would perform and no doubt fall sometimes.

I owned his GameCube sports game so I could play the "Greenville" level in it.

Mirra, Ramsdell, Winkleman, ect... all those guys made Greenville look like the place to be back in the late 90's / early 00's.

Looking back on it I bet a lot of the street riding footage in the videos from back then in NC were from spots at ECU.

Would've always thought Dave would've outlived Hoffman's crazy ass.

That was him, did a ton of stuff for greenville

The dude almost died in the 90s from a car crash that cracked his skull and created a blood clot in his brain. That, plus years of what I imagine being tons of hits to the head, and yeah I wouldn't be surprised whatsoever if CTE had something to do with this. As this story unfolds in the media we'll probably learn more about his recent behaviors that might shed clues.

Either way, depression is a ***** and as a society we need to stop brushing it off regardless of its origins.

What Comet said plus he was in extreme sports when concussions weren't being looked for so he likely had a lot of unreported ones.

At the press conference this morning they mentioned depression but didn't elaborate on it or cte

It's so crazy mayor Alan Thomas said he just spoke with Dave at a restaurant in Greenville for about 20 minutes about plans they had they wanted to get Dave in on and two hours later he killed himself .

Dave was a neighbor of mine when I got my first apartment. So sad.
