DeCourcey knows no more about this than any random poster here.
The first quote I agree but the 2nd is bull manure!!
B12 expansion doesn't exist, not at this point.
So saying DeCourcey knows more than someone else about B12 expansion is like saying DeCourcey knows more than someone else about Unicorns or Leprechauns.
I don't think Mike D. said they were expanding he just said if they were to do so that these are the teams being discussed..All people have done is throw out teams that they think the B12 would choose whereas Mike trusted his source enough to print what he believes if it even happens!!

Mike D. is more credible than anyone that is posted in these threads!!
He may be, but his source may not be. It ignores logic to add both USF/UCF.
I highly doubt Mike would have written the article if it wasn't being discussed..
I have read so many realignment articles from big name informed writers who claim to have sources. They are all shooting in the dark.
Or acting as someone's or some University's mouthpiece.

(Cont) at least 2 more within 3 years. Network would generate estimated $50 million in its first year and be available on TV and web.
The UConn thing really, really confuses me. Good program, but if location matters at all (not a lot, but at all) a Storrs to Waco road trip is kind of insane on mileage and cultural grounds.
But, ESPN is there I guess. UConn does have (minor) NYC market penetration. So, I guess.
But, hey, I ain't that bright, a trait I fully admit.
If you had one person from Texas and one person from UConn it the same room, I doubt that they could understand what other was saying.

RE: Per Mike DeCourcey
When Mike DeCourcey mentioned UConn's men's and WOMEN's basketball teams as a reason that the Big XII would go with UConn, that told you he was just talking out of his tailpipe and not actually getting this from his sources in the Big XII.
Then he called Cincy a major market. Cincy is bigger than Memphis, NOLA, and Tulsa, but it is much smaller than Orlando, Tampa, or Philadelphia. In fact, Cincy is closer in size to Memphis than it is to Orlando. Cincy is definitely a mid-sized market.
Cincy has had a traditionally stronger athletic program than Memphis. USF and UCF are in Florida. UConn is a flagship state school of a very rich state. Tulane will get you educmacated. Temple is in a top ten market. Houston is not only in a major market, it could help stem the loss of that market to the $EC.
Memphis has to have a major sales job to say that despite all those advantages all the other schools have, the University of Memphis would provide the best combination of market size, fan avidity, corporate sponsorships, a competitive athletic department, and geography. More importantly, Memphis needs friends in the Big XII. We better hope Tom Bowen is kissing arse in Lawrence, Ames, Manhattan, and Stillwater. If we have the support of those schools, we can get in. ESPN will ultimately drive who goes in if they expand, and our strongest point is that our brand is well-known even if we have traditionally been a pushover in football.

If we don't get into the Big12, we should root for UConn to get in. That conference will break up in 5 years tops if that happens. UConn in the Big12 is like putting us in the PAC.

Nor do they match the B12 culture, are extremely poor geographic fits, and a recruiting wasteland. I really think that someone at the B12 was convinced by someone at UConn that UConn brings the New York City market --- sorry, the only thing I can come up with.

Well, I think it's foolish to think we are in the lead with all the press now mentioning UConn (not just DeCourcey) and the stone cold truth that Cincy has to be a mortal lock as a bridge to WVU.
Having said that, it's not over till the announcement, correct?
Press on and keep hoping. What else is the option Hoop? Give up and enjoy life in The American USA Conference of the Sun Belt?
Gotta push the chips in, even if we have 4-6 off suited...

Amazingly this 'article' appears the week of national signing day when the Tigers are on the verge of having a really nice class.
Just like when 'Spook' was the AD and a football coach was on the verge of a nice recruiting season.

I am so emotionally damaged by all this Big XII drama. Is there a lawyer in the house willing to take my case and sue all of the so called mouth pieces saying Memphis to the Big XII?

If by that you mean that UConn has a realistic chance at a future B10 or ACC invite I think that's right. Both make more sense. And I think UConn sees the B12 as a 'P5 place holder' with the hope that happens. Which it might if the B12 decides to expand up there ---- but of course, I doubt that's considered by those in charge at B12.

Surprised no one else sees the timing of this as suspicious. The day before national signing day and rumors start flying?

Right. Or what's more likely is the B12 doesn't want to invite a school that makes such a lubricious move on hiring a coach that they basically deep six their own program, thrusting it into oblivion, forcing the largest buy-out in NCAA history. That would look terrible for any program. A PR nightmare for the conference and school alike. They probably want a school that will do everything to honor and respect its traditions, past coaches and players by loving the school and program enough to get rid of someone trying to destroy everything.
'Delusional fans'? Doubtful, but at least we love, cherish, respect and honor our program...unlike someone people I guess.
We bought out Charlie Weis?

I like Mike, I really do.
In the article he mentions that neither of the Florida schools have done much in sports.
He says this about Cincy: Cincinnati has developed the most consistent football program of potential expansion candidates
And we kicked their @$$ two years in a row. Then he gleams about UCONN's basketball program while we've been told forever that football is driving the ship.
Damn, pass the Tylenol.
