This is not unlike all facets of life where people ALWAYS try to interject unnecessary ideas into an overarching idea/concept to attempt to piggyback their views into relevance. I believe the "Social Gospel" was a turn of the century phenomenon amongst the protestant churches to add SJW principles to their religious practices. The Catholic Church in particular is notorious for having a political slant among a number of members related to SJW ideals.
Leftist progressives view Christianity with scorn and contempt.
Hard Atheist view Christianity with scorn and contempt.
For that reason some on each side thing it's a natural marriage. Some of the more clear thinking atheist see through the mess, they realize secular progressiveness is in fact a religion.
Another blanket statement. No, not all leftist progressives view Christianity with scorn and contempt. I find the idea that people have faith entirely human and good. The problem isn't Christianity. It's some Christians.
Thanks.
Why then did Democrats boo God at the Convention in 2012? The problem is, and continues to be, Christianity amongst liberals. Getting red-a$$ed by an alleged 'blanket statement' isn't going to change the truth.
Thanks.

Perhaps feminists come across to him the same way atheists come across to Christians? And I say that as an atheist - but people who are, shall we say, "militant" can be pretty annoying.

Exactly. It's the hypocritical Christians that bring about the bulk of any scorn or contempt.
No, I think that there are some who just hate Christianity as it is and there are some who hate Christianity based off a mistaken belief about the Bible contains and says. The lack of general Bible knowledge is a problem for Christians and non-Christians alike.

it's just another book that some humans hang their hat on....when I read it as a tyke, I thought is was in the same vein as the wizard of oz and menlo park meets ozzie and harriet....
it's hardly an enigma that some think the world is still flat waiting for the trumpets to blare....
"hate" is a commonly misused word by the masses on a daily basis....most don't understand the daily contradictions as they use 'that word in bibbleness'
oh wellzy....

Again, it simply illustrates the idea that people are people, and that no matter what walk of life they come from, their morals tend to be similar. Obvious exceptions are zealots who feel compelled to use deadly means to force people to accept their radical views.
This is a silly thread.
- Someone starts a thread about a famous atheist being banned from something
- atheists are ridiculed for being morally bankrupt hypocrites
- people point out the hypocrisy seen in Christianity itself
- other people get all defensive because Christianity gets called out for having hypocrites - the "we are all sinners" and/or "the church is for sinners and not the saints" phrases to excuse boorish behavior
- I chuckle to myself because so many people are blinded by ideology to see how similar they are to the people they oppose...
