BOT Meeting This Week
Agenda should be out tomorrow. If rumors are correct, there should be some exciting projects on it for UAB as a whole.

Great stuff! Didn't realize the softball renovations were coming. Two items rumored to be coming in this meeting were work on another dorm and a new research building on University. Any idea where those stand?

From Ed Enoch:

Operations building would be 2 floors, 46k sq ft, and cost $15.3M. Would contain coaches offices, locker room, weight room, training room, equipment storage, and dining and study areas.

They just finished a new dorm. I haven't heard anything about yet another new one. Maybe that is the one you heard about?

And the new research building has been talked about for a while, but where they want to put it is where the main IT/phone hub for the campus is located, so they have to work out what to do with that first.

Blazer fans will be searching for signs that the BOT's new leadership actually means to change its old anti-UAB undergrad and sports attitude.

On the dorm, I thought plans where in the works for additional dorm work. Not necessarily a new building, could be renovations to an older building.

Where's the new police building going?

Where exactly is the College of Arts & Sciences building going or if it already exists where is it?

Wast this meant to replace the humanities building?

I've been away from UAB for over a year now, but last I heard this particular building is going on the corner across from snoozy's and the library.

This project is needed before they can replace the Humanities building

Doesn't the Humanities Building have George Wallace's name on it? If that plaque is still there, it's considered venerated by the BOT and as such cannot be destroyed.

Marginalization now, marginalization forever.

From Drew:

"UAB Softball update: Plan to construct grandstand of 1,000 seats, new press box, move existing bleachers to outfield."

That's great news for the softball program.

"UAB Softball: That's a $1,000,000 project, but a gift in that amount has been donated in the name of Mary Bowers."

Some clarification:

Humanities will be demolished after new building goes up, probably in about two years. After that the site of the Humanities building will be new green space.
