Like previous posters have said, UCONN wouldn't leave Hockey East for an associate membership unless they thought/knew a full B1G membership was on its way...

The B1G has been trying, but UConn keeps turning them down because if UConn ever accepted, this board would 1) blow up and 2) lose a reason to exist (i.e. all realignment threads must mention UConn joining another conference at some point).
We'd still have ECU for the trolls to troll about.

Pro arenas don't usually work well. Ohio St has the Schottenstein and they draws flies for hockey. Wisconsin used to draw well at Kohls, but their performance has gone down the toilet, as has fan interst. (Not saYing Kohls is a pro arena, but it approaches that). The best size of college is around 6000 seating, although most of the NCHC is much greater than that.

Stony Brook might have more B1G potential, as Nassau Coliseum is being converted to a college sized arena and SBU is AAU. That could be the fire to light under Rutgers to get them going.

Yeah, the First Niagara Center seats like 19K, that'd be cavernous for college hockey. The HarborCenter, where Canisius plays, is attached to the arena. It only seats 1,800, which is small, but it's fine for Atlantic Hockey. UB would probably need to do their own thing if they wanted something in between. I don't see them doing it.

And people don't really realize how long Long Island is. Stony Brook is like a 45-minute car ride past Nassau Coliseum. Students aren't coming out for that.

And it was not built "for" Canisius. It wa built for the Sabres and the Griffs lease. Before the FNC the Griffs were leasing from DIII Buff State.

NoDak said that, but I don't disagree. It would probably have been bigger if it was intended for college hockey, even Atlantic Hockey. I'm sure the Pegulas are quite happy to lease to Canisius as it strengthens the connection between their hockey empire and the City of Buffalo, but it would be too much of a stretch to claim it as their primary motivation. The HarborCenter also hosts the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, an Ontario Junior Hockey League member. That's a U22 team at the junior A level, the top amateur competition, one step below the semipro major juniors.

UConn works for me as the B1G East expansion school, to pair with Kansas in the West.

Not saying that will happen.

Wayne St is in Detroit, and there's rumors the the Red Wings new arena will have a practice arena for Wayne St. Some of Wayne St's campus is relocating to around the Red Wings arena as part of a major new development.

With Rochester Mn new rink, maybe Winona St will take a plunge. Women's lax would be a better Title IX add than women's hockey.
Minnesota doesn't need anymore d1 hockey schools 5 is enough. Call me crazy but I do wish the big would offer north Dakota a affiliate spot in hockey. Boston u would be OK to.

What would be in it for BU to go to Big 10 hockey?

Precisely. No school is leaving Hockey East by choice. The only exception would be if UConn were invited for all-sports to the Big Ten. Obviously they would move their men's hockey team with them. The Big Ten at that point would have 6 women's hockey playing members, so odds are the women's team would also move to a new Big Ten women's league.

The Big Ten hockey women will be one short of six members with

Minny, Wisco, Ohio St, Penn St, and UConn. Mich and Mich St could add it though.

You're right, for some reason I thought there were 5 members sponsoring it. Well if one of the suspected schools Nebraska, Illinois, Iowa or Rutgers added hockey its going to be both men's and women's squads so there's 8 for men's and 6 for women's. Very doable.
