Wouldn't work because it wasn't just him but his staff, EMU is a long term project for anyone.

Agree a lot of credit goes to his staff, but it takes a top manager to hire a good staff. And EMU is not a long term project. They've got good talent but consistently under achieve.

Head Coach at Cleveland State. Hell, get Ben and Gary back together. Both are are nearing retirement age and aren't looking for big money jobs.

To mamy head cases this started when we had all those seniors and grad playets.

But they have talent. Good coaching and leadership can fix the mental side.

I don't like it. Braun is a good man. Let's leave his legacy at EMU intact.

EMU has top 1/3 talent for n MAC. Our record should be at a minimum 6-2. It is time for Murphy to step aside.

BRILLIANT!!!
If this was Murphy's last year, I think that might have worked. Braun is at the age of with the question of retirement or one last assignment? I agree he would not want to take on a project. But to Murphy's credit, EMU is not the project it once was. We have to give him this credit.
Unfortunately, next year is Murphy's last year- rightfully so. (Hope he turns it around, but...). Braun will be that much older and the team will be that much more of a project with Lee gone.

Yes, bring back Braun. He surrounds himself with quality assistants that help recruit and Coach. Murphy is stealing money from EMU. I would not put it past Lyke to dismiss Murphy early since he was critical of EMU and her on scheduling issue.

Some of you guys mentality belong in the Smithsonian.
Your minds are frozen, in time, 20 years hoping for a resurrection of past greatness.
There hasn't been a great MAC team in the last 10 years. Good teams (e.g., Akron, Kent, etc.) but not Braun-era teams, or the Rick Majerus Ball State teams.
Sadly, the days back in 1998 when I believe UofM, MSU, EMU, WMU, and UDM all went to the big dance are a distant memory. WMU won their opening round game. UDM did as well. UDM won their opening round game also in 1999.
In this respect we're like UDM. Looking back at past greatness hoping to catch lightning in a bottle again.
Anyone see the attendance at most (not including Oakland) UDM games? Not good. I guess after multiple NCAA bids in the 90s, average teams just don't cut it.

I'm not talking about everyone else. I want EMU to win consistently. Murphy seems to the one that trying to "catch lightning in a bottle" with JUCO's and transfers. The team plays consistently bad and the rest of the MAC has the recipe for beating him. If he can't adjust then it's time for the Ath Dept to adjust.

RE: Why not...
I still get a decent chuckle at the "juco and transfer" comments, as if no one else in the MAC does it. Go take a gander at Buffalo's roster, or look at the fact that Kent's two best players are transfers, or look at Bowling Green.
What else is funny is that we only have three juco scholarship players (Toney, Mangum, Nazione) and one D1 transfer (Price). Bond, Thompson, Lee, Alvano, Nobles, and to a certain extent Brown, are all 4 year recruits. And I'm not gonna act like the JUCO's are the problem. Mangum is too streaky, but plays hard. Toney and Nazione have both been good players on both ends. Toney may not be a "true point guard" like everyone drools about, but he gets a basket when we need one and forces turnovers. These guys aren't the problem.
I think it's time to mix in some man-to-man. I was a staunch defender of the zone when it was holding teams to the lowest field goal percentage in the conference, but now we aren't stopping anybody. In the past, 86 points would be enough to beat virtually any team we played. Now it isn't. Murphy has to adapt, and so far he's shown that he's too stubborn to do it. It's frustrating and it wastes what is likely his most talented team.

I've blown hot and cold about Murphy ala the Sphinx for a while now, but the past two seasons have been plus 20 wins. I do expect better next year and have written the team off this year or the women's team in whom I am equally disappointed.

Well put, 79. I have been more hot than cold. Murphy started off with a 9-7 conference record, at the time the best mark in 11 years. It was instant optimism. Yes, there was some negativity in the off season, but he came back. Since he has had many nice non-conference wins and consistently ran middle of the pack in the MAC. The latter is not necessarily a measure of success, but there is something to be said about it. Particularly given EMU's recent history.
But these last 2 MAC seasons have been almost a SHOCKING letdown- at least the starts of them. He has the assets to turn this around the remainder of this year and next. We'll see....
