I already know what you're talking about. NDSU even has something similar. Lots and lots of schools have that.
That wasn't my claim.
A hypothetical of my claim would be this: Notre Dane fans could only watch ND home football games by streaming a telecast from und.com, and logging into a und.com account for a monthly cost. No other way to view that production -- no NBC, no other channel by any means (OTA, cable, sat or streaming services).
THAT will never happen in our lifetimes.
That wasn't what I was referring to. I said they can sell the content to networks, which is much more likely.

Yes.
The OP seriously claims ESPN's overhead problems are partly due to overpaying for conference realignment????
ESPN gets huge amounts of programming from college sports and all of their college contracts don't add up to what they are paying the NFL just to show 17 crappy MNF games.

esayem, that's still too strong of a claim. Again, not in our lifetimes.

Exactly. The most expensive college conference cost 10% of what one of ESPN's NFL, NBA, or MLB contracts. College sports costs are a bargain compared to pro sports. Yet the value of sports rights continues to increase, just yesterday the NFL got an increase for its Thursday Night package (which isn't even exclusive rights because the NFL Network will also be carrying every one of those games).

Which proves: people love watching telecasts of major football games.
It's one of the few things for which a significant number of people will actually stop what they're doing (sans playing with their phones, of course), sit down and watch the screen at a coordinated date/time.
Zero reason, then, for those rights holders to accept less money than they're currently getting.
