Selig said he was "pleasantly surprised" regarding hearing about TV negotiations but the negotiations won't wrap up for another month or two. So maybe it'll be higher than what we initially heard. Still likely a drop though.

You can't state that you will be happy with your compensation if it's cut in half so why did he make this statement?

“I think we’re going to be in a really good place with the quality of our broadcasts, the distribution of our broadcasts and the compensation we will receive as a league."

And this statement:

“I’m really pleased with the preliminary reports and preliminary discussions that have been held between Conference USA and our various TV partners,” he said.

Does ODU even get any of the old CUSA contract? From ODU's perspective, the new CUSA contract is much better than what they have going in the CAA.

Yeah, the past two years. We had a deal with Comcast and NBC Sports with the CAA but I don't think we got any money from it, just exposure.

Much of what Selig is quoted as saying is ambiguous at best. He could be saying we'll be pleased compared to what Minium reported, but not pleased in absolute dollars. He could also mean we'll be pleased by the amount of coverage, but not necessarily the $$. Sounds like political babble to me. I need to see the final contract terms before feeling any kind of way about it.

If we have to swallow a turd on payout, I hope it is offset by maximizing exposure. That would actually be a smart play over the short term.

He specifically included compensation in the statement.

You might say that if you see it as trading compensation for wider distribution and accessibility.

This kind of surprises me too as the presidents were previously opposed. However, it seems to be centered around cost savings (travel) or increasing revenue (tv). To me, it most likely goes back to the leaked numbers and considering all options.

Could a bonus structure work? The nets don't care how a conference distributes funds. As long as a satisfactory min. can be agreed upon and no one team is guaranteed preference, it could be an opportunity for teams to make more than the previous contract...just typing out loud.

The Metro conference had that. It was something Louisville slapped on us. But hey- we got into the Metro, which was a damned fine league.

Before we add two more teams, I would like to see the conference office work harder to optimize schedules and reduce travel. The current basketball schedule, where Rice plays Old Dominion and Charlotte twice, but UTEP and UTSA only once, is the kind of 01-wingedeagle example every single school in C-USA has.
